We are thinking of buying another 'second' car. It will be the daily driver for Lenny. Budget is about 10.000 max. Must haves: 4 seats Little luggagespace for groceries. Funfactor. Some cars crossed our minds: Peugeot 306 Cabriolet Saab 900/9.3 Cabriolet Porsche 944 Porsche 912, or cheap=slow 911 Alfa Romeo GTV Alfa Romeo 166 Wondering what your ideas or options are. Some other cars we should think of? Suggestions with links or pictures very appriciated.
Roel, I've got a audi cabriolet V6 (1994). Ok might be a little outdated but very nice to drive in summer. Biggest disadvantage: F(ront)WD, just hasn't got enough traction. Maintenance isn't a bargain either, but nothing like ferrari. Like Saab previous owners are mostly decent people. P-cars, for 10.000 you could get a 968, not sure if it has got 4 seats (For those who know me: I confess I once considered the purchase of a black/black 968 CS). But cars without a top would really add something to your collection, I think. I rather wouldn't miss it anymore. Peug. 306 doesn't do it for me, waste of money. Saab is nice but expensive (10 i's bottom of the market), possibly not for our age. BMW isn't on your list, neither on mine. Look at this one (not a V6) but looks nice to me, you even got some money to spare or to buy some decent wheels: http://www.audiforum.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20411 I guess Mercedes SL -1988 is out of the question? (Do think it's a beautiful car, maintenancecosts=ok, insurance also (before 1991=oldtimer). Quattroporte (mid '90) must be on your list! Good luck, keep us informed! gr., Gijs Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Trade in the Mondial and add 10k! For that money Lenny's new daily driver could be a good Mondial 3,2 cabriolet. Perfect daily driver (if you have a garage).
Coupé Fiat!? I had a Turbo 16v! Unbelievable fast and fun to drive but the engine wasn't very reliable on mine! Two snapped cambelts!!! It could be caused by a combination of my driving style and bad car itself (mondaycar) The non Turbo's are supposed to be bulletproof though! Never had any other problems (oh yes, i had an aftermarket alarm which sucked BADLY!!, but that's not the fault of Fiat) Maintenance cost can be pretty high if you go to official dealers though! Ton's idea isn't bad either i think! trade in the Mondial and go for a Cabrio!!
1) Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0V6 24V (wonderful engine, handling, styling) 2) Alfa Romeo 156 2.5V6 24V (less torque/power, but more space) 3) BMW 528i '97-'99 (fast, reliable, classy, economical, fun to drive for a big car) 4) Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo (if you can find a good one) 5) Honda Civic Vtec (9000 rpm of fun?)
We may not forget that the car is supposed to be for your wife... I would go for the Saab cabrio, as you already mentioned. A classic model, looks classy and you will get decent money back when you want to sell it in the future. Nice of you mentioning a 944. I had one in 1988, had it for a year and a half. A fantastic car with an unbelievable roadholding thanks to its transaxle system (gearbox at the rear). But I guess you can buy something more suitable for your wifey. I bought it ('84) in 1988 for HFL 42.000,00. They are in the € 3000 region now I guess, most will be worn bad...
What about this Roel Replace the Mondial by a 4-seat 360 Modena... Almost looks real... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98265
Hmm I don't know much about the Peugeot 306 Cabriolet ... other than I really like it when I see it drive by
That also sounds like a really nice combination!!!! From your list I would personally choose that one!
C`mon dude, 10K for your beloved Lenny - thats all? she deserves more! Don`t be so stingy, be a good husband & gent and double the budget Say HI & my very best regards to Lenny Wolfgang
A GTV and a 166 on the same list? Is the GTV fourseater enough? In that case, that would be my choice. Didn´t know you could get one for 10K though. I should pay more attention.
peugeot 406 coupe? VW corrado? (you'll have a real nice VR6 for that money) audi cabrio seems an excellent choice as well
