I took a few days off for my boys Spring Break so we could do a short "boys trip" somewhere. I am looking at Sunday - Tuesday as I have to be back at work by Wednesday. Doing this on the skinny budget so looking for some creative ideas within 3-4 hours of Dallas. Any suggestions? I know it's last minute but didn't expect to have the time off. As always your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, JP
Not sure how old they are, but MSRH for karting? A little further than 4 hours but probably other stuff near Houston to do.
8 & 11 so a little young for that as neither of hem have sat in a cart yet. Great idea though !!!!!!!
Good idea and not too far away. Thought about a cabin somewhere just to chill out but everything seems to be booked up Spring Breakers that actually planned ahead.....
Go down to the coast and goto/learn scuba diving or take out a boat. Its a little further than 4 hours from here but not too much more.

That's Dinosaur Valley. Fossil Rim is a wildlife preserve, and pretty neat. They offer a scenic drive that is 9.5 miles long, and you can feed the animals. More info here. http://www.fossilrim.org/drive.php If you end up coming down here, these two places are, in my opinion, worth visiting. Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum. I haven't been yet, but I think I'll go this week. http://www.visitcleburne.com/attractions/listing.php?Chisholm-Trail-Outdoor-Museum-3 Layland Museum of History. Went there years ago...lots of Native American artifacts. http://www.visitcleburne.com/arts/listing.php?The-Layland-Museum-of-History-3 If you decide to go north, I'd recommend this. http://www.travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.13889
When I was in 5th grade (about the same age?) I remember getting lost for half a day in the "wilderness" during a field trip to Dinosaur Valley with some classmates, no supervision. What a blast, great memories. It was like a real adventure at that age.
I went to dinosaur valley when I was younger with some adults who knew what they were doing. We spent a full day just walking up the river. Not sure what it's like now but it was a lot of fun. If anything you could just wade in the river and go down a mini current. I think they have a couple trails there too
San Antonio was always a favorite spot of my kids. Theme parks, Riverwalk,The Alamo, a great Zoo,and some really good restaurants there. Schlitterbaum in New Braunfels is a great waterpark, as it has a ton of trees, and a real river running through it.
