My high school son just learned that he won't be able to ski with us in Colorado over Spring Break, his soccer team has games and the coach said if he misses a game, he's off the team next year. I'm now looking at 3 day weekend to come ski Utah with him.

I'm a CO native and know all the places to get 2 for 1, or discounted lift tickets, but know nothing about finding them in Utah. I'd like to ski Park City, Deer Valley, Alta or Snowbird. Any combination is fine, but would like to do Alta at least one one day. We'll hopefully ski the weekend of Feb 19.

    Does anyone have suggestions?

By the way, for anyone skiing in CO, I can recommend http://www.eduproject.com/. Their coupon books are great!

You can try the Park City chamber of commerce site. Sometimes they have coupons online or you can request an information pack in the mail and those often have coupons included.

The snow has sucked the past week because it rained a little up in the mountains. However there a couple of storms moving in this week. Alta has 105 inches of snow. I think Deer Valley/Park City have around 75 inches or more. Good luck and have fun. One more thing, that avalanche conditions are really bad right now due to the warmer weather and new snowfall coming in.

I won't be there until Feb 19, hopefully more snow by then! Really looking forward to getting back to Alta, been a long time since I've been there.

They have a "deals" section on Skiutah.com worth checking out.

The best secret is to go to any Costco in SLC or Sandy, Utah, where they sell discounted passes to Snowbird (39% off) for a 2 pack good any day, or a 5 pack to Park City Mountain Resort with about a similar % discount. I think you'll also find a discount book for Canyons, Brighton and Snowbasin. I don't remember seeing any for Alta before (I've looked), and forget about getting a discount for Deer Valley - they don't discount unless you bought a locals discount package pre-season.

Should be good skiing by mid-Feb. Enjoy.

+1 on the Costco hook-up. A pack of 5 is 259 to park city

Great hookup on the same day - fly in and ski deal. Too bad it ends the day before I get there! Thats my luck.

Will look into the Costco deals as well. Does anybody have a favorite place to rent equipment? Needs to be in SLC as I'll likely be skiing multiple mountains. I have my own gear, but my kid doesn't. He's a good skier, so want a place that has some quality stuff.

Thanks everybody for your input, keep it coming!

Good thing I called ahead and put my order in for good snow last weekend. Holy crap! Alta got 28 inches in 24 hours. I was there yesterday. The Canyons on Sunday had 15 inches of fresh white stuff, and was even more towards the top.

I've skied for over 40 years, and saw a lot of snow growing up in Colorado. I've never seen anything like that. Have also never seen crowds like at the base of the Canyons, or traffic like driving to Alta yesterday!

    Thanks all for the suggestions!

Pic of me on Sunday. Notice my right arm fully extended? My pole is 52", and is straight down in the snow. If you look closely at my helmet, you might see my scuderia shields. :)

I hope you had a good time.

I haven't seen that amount of traffic since the Olympics.
I guess the skiing made up for it.

I am shocked there weren't any big avalanches. I think there has been only 1 fatality in Utah this year and that was around Thanksgiving.

My son skiing Baldy Shoulder at Alta. He made a turn and sunk into the snow, he's still moving in that shot, standing straight up. He's 5'11". I still can't get over that powder.

The skiing DID make up for the crowds.

My son told me we're going back next year. He thinks there's always snow like that. Poor inexperienced boy.

Cool shot. I was up at my place in Deer Valley since Tuesday, went from ice to great snow over the weekend. Looks like Alta got a fair amount more than us, but the 18"s or so was great. Hopefully it continues to snow. Glad you had a good time.

The snow looks heavy in the photo, how light was it?

It wasn't heavy at all, was quite light. The problem was that it was SO deep that the weight added up. But all those movies you've seen with powder flying up in the face of the skier? It was like that.

Off to CO for 4 more days of skiing next week, it's going to be a disappointment after the Utah trip.
