I just got my 99 F355 Spider back from the belt service and tried taking a reading off of the OBD2 connector and it gave me a communications failure. It worked fine before the service. Any ideas what to look for? If it is a simple fix, I don't want to take it back in.

Damaged wires where ecu harness passes through firewall from engine compartment to passenger compartment.

You will get this if you haven't disabled the immobiliser before trying to connect.

When I bought my car it had a recent service and the OBD didn't work. I tracked it down to a bent over pin in the nine pin plug that is part of the harness. It is located in the compartment behind the seat where the Motronics is. Open that plug up and look carefully at the pins.

Thanks for the feedback! I will look into this later today.

I tried reading the OBD2 data with the car running, so the immobilizer is ruled out.

Well there wasn't anything wrong with the connector. I guess my next step is to find the pinout of the OBD2 connector and where each wire goes so that I can check for continuity.

Read through that whole thread on my issue. I did just that to isolate my problem. Start by looking for 12v at the OBD connector. There are only 2 data wires and the 12v and a ground. I used a tone generator to find that bent pin. The other data wire is in the Motronics pin as I remember.

Thanks! I just finished reading through it. I will check for the 12V on pin 16 first, then I will check the data lines. Heck, maybe I'll even draw an official schematic and post it somewhere.

I'd love too, but probably can't make it this time. I have a critical project at work that will be starting to really heat up around the middle to end of September.

    Thanks for the invite though.
