First, let me just say that I have done a search and read all related posts, and have not found a definitive answer to this question.... I have a 95 355 and also a <gasp!> 2000 Mazda MPV Minivan. I guess I need 2 scanners right? What scanner/reader would you recommend for OBDI and for OBDII and why? It might be good to futher break this down into handheld type devices and then those that connect to a PDA or laptop. thanks in advance.....
In the past week I have spoken with several f-car mechanics about the OBDII scanner (and SD2 / SD3) and what is the plus and minus of each for my '97 355. Eugenio http://emelbon.tripod.com/eugeniosferrariservice.html explained that the ODBII is best for my car, at least value-wise, but it requires jumping or changing the pin-out of the connector - he is going to do it on my car so I can buy my own scanner - he said just pick one up at Kragen or PepBoys... But then you need a source for deciphering some of the codes it will put out- supposedly you can search this site for any codes that you can't figure out. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. I'll let you know if there's any "gotchas" Eric
Does no-one have one of these? I am looking at the iEquus 3110. Can anyone provide any experience about this? Dave
AutoZone has a tool loaner program that include these scanners. The one they gave me was an Actron unit. Just go to your local AutoZone and tell them what you need at the desk. You give them your CC and they'll charge you for the unit. Use it (I used it right out in the parking lot) get the codes, then return it. They credit your card for the full amount. They have lots of good tools on that program.
If your 1995 355 has the Motronic 2.7, then OBD1 won't do anything more than show you the codes that you already get from pressing the red button on each ECU...and OBD2 won't work at all. The 1996+ Motronic 5.2 is OBD2, though.
