Hi All, Which commercially available OBDII interface modules (sometimes called a scan tool) have you guys successfully used to interrogate your F car? I realise these devices are largely "read only", a few allowing you to reset the error code list (and thus turn off the engine warning light), however I'm pretty sure this is how to SD2/SD3 communicates with the car so it should be possible with some trial and error to actually get at the good stuff with a laptop. I'm thinking of buying a few of the interfaces and trying them out, but of course if anyone knows of one that works it'll save me time and $$$. Anyone out there got access to an SD2 that can log the comms for me? Cheers, Matt.
Sorry, that'll be the geek coming out in me. I'm one of those guys that just has to see what makes stuff tick.
I'd be worried if I played with that stuff that I'd turn the ABS off or make it run too lean or something stupid like that!!
Now let me see, I've got a big black wire that runs into the top of each distributor and lots of big black wires that run to the sparkplugs. Does that help?
this has been covered in ferrarichat before...i wish i could remember where....but they had a reader and a bunch of codes for ferraris. do a search. it was a LONG time ago , though.
i think a GM with a whale by product problem might have the answer, but then again useless is as useless does
Hi Matt , http://www.autotap.com/productsubcat.asp?MainCategoryId=92 these have been used on Ferraris for SD2 got this from an old fchat thread John
Hi, Just beware with the OBD2 requirements. This standard has been mandatory in the States and Europe for some time, and there are many readers that work for almost every car in those environments. However, for some reason, things are different in Oz. I know from experience that for BMW's the standard OBD2 readers from the USA still do not work in Australia. This format is still being "mandated" in OZ ie compulsory from 2007. The car companies seem to have managed to delay the implementation in Australia compared to the rest of the world. I would suspect that if BMW, porsche etc have managed to delay the implementation in OZ, that Ferrari probably would have done the same. The bottom line is that you may buy an aftermarket OBD2 reader from USA / Europe and it may not work with your car (even thought it may work in the USA or Europe). Is there anyone here in Oz that can confirm they can get their car to talk to an OBD2 reader ? Cheers Robbo
