What seemed like greater then 500 cars gathered at OBI this morning by 9:00 AM. The large father's day turnout brought out the police. The usual array of early risers that arrived by 9:00 lined the parking lot with double parking. Cars lined the interior access roads to the Oak Beach community as the main lot became saturated. Those that could not make into the main area parked on the grass for a ½ mile on both sides of the OBI entrance along Ocean Parkway. The police refused entry to any car trying to enter after 9:00 am. As the lot started to empty out by 9:30 as the first group of early risers left, the police still did not permit any new comers entrance. Attendees wondered if this was the end of OBI. I did see the usual group of 308s, TR, several 360s and a Super America. There were probably alot others turned away.

Yeah, it was a little out of hand today, I arrived at around 7:15am and within a half hour the lot was full. Got to wonder when the new gates they installed at both entrances to the lots get locked up for good on Sunday mornings?

Yes it was wild today, but Im afraid this is it. One of the Troopers said they received 37 calls. i think by next week or maybe not to far past that that will close it down for good. I hope everybody still turns out on Sun. mornings. I know I will and if we have to meet right in captree itself I will pay the ^.00 to get in.

Captree is still a good choice. For those not wanting to pay the entrance fee get there before 8 AM. The back lot will hold hundreds of cars on nice solid concrete and it has the pavilion for breakfast. The exit area is also not conducive to burnouts so the cops will have less to do. I think Captree is a win – win situation.

Yes, Captree will probably continue in the off-season but we will have to find a replacement for the OBI parking lot. One of the troopers said that this would be the last weekend. In his words, "next week you'll need a permit," no doubt referring to a Town of Babylon sticker. Oh well, we knew this had to end sometime. The rectal orefices with their open-pipe Harleys and the burn-out boys just made too much noise and ruined it for everyone.

Dave and I were parked on the grass about a half mile from the entrance and couldn't believe the amount of cars this weekend. It was a fitting end if in fact this will have been the last weekend.

If I wasn't going to be up at the Canadian GP next weekend I would run down to the beach at 6:00am Sunday and put a small sign by the entrance reading, "moved to the South Shore Mall." ;)

After I went to OBI this past Sunday, I went over to Jones beach for a walk on the boardwalk. At thefar end of the Health walk, ( 2miles) I saw pking lot #1. Very large and not 1 single car parked in it.It looks completely unused. I would love to see it put to some use if you know what I mean but I have no idea who or how this could be approached.

You still have to pay to enter the beach lots.

I agree with Sandy that Captree is still a nice place to meet. Come on guys, driving a Ferrari and worried about paying a $7 parking fee? That's the cheapest entertainment going. Movies cost more. Car shows with less interesting cars cost more. I don't get it.

You could purchase an Empire passport for $59 and be covered thru 3/31/07 at most beaches and parks in NY State...........

Doug- The pass is car specific.......in the old days we would laminate the pass and use it on all of the family cars......but the beach folks at the booth are pretty wise to that move. The sticker must be affixed to the inside of the window on the left side of the car.

Yesterday AM was a wash out. I missed doing my early Sunday run. Still wondering where the OBI group will be moving on to. I will be out of time for the next 2 weekends. If anyone hears where the OBI group is meeting please post.
