On rare occasion, I'll drop the 308 into first gear, release the clutch... and nothing. 2nd, just fine. Wiggle it around a bit, and it will eventually "catch". My neighbor had a Mondial that did the same thing.
    Thoughts?
Am I due for a very large bill?

Unless..............it may be the gear lever/cables that needs adjusting? Maybe? :)

Try realign the shifting linkage. This will probably require dropping the trans pan so that you can see how everything lines up. There are several threads detailing the procedure. Not a difficult job, just takes patience.

Been there. Worn linkage parts, I'm not sure wich ones. Repair was under $1000 at my independent mechanic. This was several years ago, and the car has shifted perfectly ever since.
