For those of you who don't live on or near the right coast, we've been in the grip of a very slow moving early season Nor'Easter for a few days. The air show was a pretty miserable place to be today with rain, 15-25 kt N winds, 1,000 ft overcast, and 55 degrees on the thermometer. No one was flying and the crews were disassembling vendor tents early, so we just walked around and toured the static displays. At one point, though, I heard a radial kick over, so I was curious, of course! There was a guy in a Stearman, in the rain and wind and just generally crappy weather, going through his acro routine for what remained of the crowd. It was like a big middle finger to the wx. I love that guy, whoever he is. I can just imagine him being some seasoned dude who gruffly muttered, "Well, these folks came to see SOMETHING, so I'm goin' up." Kudos to you, sir!

Sounds similar to Oceana 07 where a hurricane was of Va. Beach on Sunday with low ceilings, off and on rain, and winds. it made for a miserable day but there was some flying still going on though.

There is always something going on weather wise this time of year. When it's beautiful, it's BEAUTIFUL. When it's bad, it's four-horsemen-of-the-apocalypse bad. Makes for good surf, though... :)

It's funny: in 1985, as I was already in the Hampton Roads area for a hobby show, I went to the Oceana open house with some friends, and the weather was exactly the same! Aside from viewing the static-display aircraft (which included one I had never seen before, an IAI F-21 Kfir), the only excitement was when the Blue Angels fired up their A-4s to head back to Pensacola.

As we were all seriously underdressed for the cold weather, he headed over to the show line to watch the Blues taxi by (in formation, of course). After they passed, the jet blast gave us some much-needed warmth for about half-a-minute or so! I believe they took off in pairs (instead of their usual 4-ship) because of the weather, and within seconds of liftoff they had disappeared into the scud.

Not a fun day, but the Kfir and the Blues provided a little bit of enjoyment!

Haha, yeah, we arrived just in time to see the Snowbirds say (in Eric Cartman fashion), "Screw you guys, I'm going home." Seems to be a theme! Oh well, here's hoping for better weather next year.

I'm supposed to fly my Arrow down to your neck of the woods Sunday, Gator. How's the wx looking down there?

Looks good as of now: forecast is sunny, high of 70. You just might see some Ferraris going by on the roads below!

Ummm...Ferraris. I'm supposed to be flying south again to check out a 348 before too long. Hope to join the F-car club soon...

Thanks for the weather report, looks good!
