This photo is from a late 330 GTC, 11517.
Has anyone seen the knobs placed in these positions on other GTCs?
My only thought for doing this is moving the internal switches improves the airflow through the vents.

I’ve seen “countless” variations on cars with non-factory A/C installations. I’ve seen larger controls, smaller controls, knobs above the vents, below the vents, to the right or left sides of the vents, often stacked vertically. I don’t think airflow is much of an issue. My 330 GTC has a standard (but not factory-installed) A/C setup with the control knobs in the vents, and it blows quite a lot of air from all three vents. I would guess this is a non-factory installation and it was cheaper to install the knobs this way vs using the correct “in the vent” location? IDK…all conjecture all the time.

On this 365 GTC (chassis 12461 if I'm not mistaken) there aren't any air vents at all.
The photo is from a few years ago.

Mahalo for your observations, but this car came with factory AC and I doubt the factory put the controls there.
What makes it worse is this car was a Platinum FCA show car that was also shown at Pebble Beach. Maybe this doesn't matter to the judges.

Maybe Marcel would have some thoughts on this? And I’ve never seen a 365 without console vents, so that’s a new one for me.

I checked the 330 GTC Judging guide and it says nothing about the console vents at all, so I guess it’s not a judging issue?? But I’m clueless here. Sorry.

I wonder what the technical need could have been that led to the elimination of the air vents.
Furthermore, the 365 GTC referred to in post #3 was restored last year with a repaint in the beautiful original color "Amaranto Bull Lea" and a total restoration of the interior (seats and everything else).
But even in this case the three air vents have not been reinserted into the console.

Do all 330/365 have A/C? It could just be the case of a car optioned without it....

AC was an option in 330 & 365 GTCs, and the 2+2s, and Daytonas...

Even though AC was optional, if you look at any 330/365 GTC that has come up for sale on the internet, they all had the three vents in the center console, even if they didn’t have AC installed. The GTC in the pictures in this thread without the three vents in the center console is the only GTC I’ve ever seen without those vents. I have never seen photos of a ventless GTC nor seen one in person without the three vents, even if they didn’t have AC. That’s just my personal experience.

actually…no. The AC vents were still on the console on the 365 GTC. The 365 GTC added the upper dash vents for demisting and additional airflow, but I do not think they were part of the AC. Would a 365 GTC owner confirm, please. Also, those photos show the AC vents in the footwells which was on the 365 but not the 330 GTC cars. So why they removed the center console vents is still unknown.

Hi, I owned 365 GTC 12461 for over 11 years, so know the car well. It was not supplied with air-conditioning from new.
330 GTC had three vents in the console. For cars without A/C they fed fresh air to the cabin. For cars with A/C the left hand vent had a knob in the centre which controlled the temperature and the right hand vent had a knob in the centre to control volume of A/C flow. I think the two outer vents were for A/C and the centre one for fresh air, but not certain about that.
365 GTC were produced with fresh air vents on the top of the scuttle. Cars without A/C did not have vents in the console. Cars with A/C had 3 vents in the console as well, with control via little knobs in their centres and I think all 3 vents were for A/C.

    Thanks for this clarification.
The 365 GTC chassis 12645 also does not have the three air vents on the console.

Thanks for clearing up the lack of center console vents on the 365 GTC for cars without A/C.

On the 330 GTC’s, for cars with A/C, all three vents were for A/C.
