I previously owned a 355 Spyder (loved the 355 style, but turned out to be a dog). A client of mine has a stored 1989 328 in his warehouse that has possibilities. It is black/black with red carpet and about 17K miles. Not sure if I need another toy. Needs a lot of cosmetic cleaning up (I’m aware how expensive even small parts are), but all in all appears to be in very good shape and the price may be right. No tears, cracked plastic, cracked seals, ugly bolster wear, etc. Before buying, I would get a PPI with Brian Krawl who is in my area. My question is there are two odd things about the exterior body we cannot figure out. First, the sloped pieces that run from the roof to the back of the engine hood usually run all the way to the back of the hood on both the left and right sides. On this car the metal pieces only run about 2 inches onto the engine hood, not all the way to the back of the hood. Sorry I don’t know what to call them, but they are kind of like a spine on each side from the back roof to the hood. We have not been able to find any 328 pictures with pieces like this. Also, there is no spoiler on the back. Not sure if this was a factory add on. We looked through some of our Ferrari books and could not figure out or find a 328 picture where the left and right pieces did not go all the way back. Any ideas? We thought this might be a body that was reworked for a show? Thanks.

I grew up in your town.

Is it a gray market car? The reason I ask is evidently the rear spoiler was an option in Europe.

As for the other details it is hard to picture. Can you get some photos of it?

I know you did. I'm the guy with the black 355 Spyder that kept breaking down about 3 years ago, i.e., manifolds, alternator, etc. I owe you one for helping me return it. The 328 is not gray market as far as I can tell and it has a left side steeringwheel. There is no spolier on it and no indication one was ever attached. I'll take some pictures of the rear end over the weekend. Got the Ferrari bug again at Quail Lodge and Pebble Beach a couple of weeks ago. I also need to talk to you about a possible PPI and 30K if I decide to go through with it. Thanks.

Ah, yes I remember. I love 328's and am actually working on a history of the 308/328 series. If it is not too far away I could take a look at it with you. If it really is a non standard car I would really like to have some pictures of it for my project.

    Let me know.

Will do. I'm going to look at it again on Tuesday. I'll take some pictures. It's in "storage condition" and is filthy, but in good cosmetic shape. I suspect the belt, hoses, etc., are going to all need to be replaced right out of the gate as preventative maintenance. That being said, it runs fine and was just driven a couple of weeks ago.
