Thought I'd set up this little thread for any little odd jobs I encounter on Kato 3.0QV or Cavello 3.2QV This might be interesting or it might be really boring...... Today is the weekend........actually it's the weekend all over the world, anyway, after a bit of a thrash last weekend in which I took out a Ferrari Chap who has a 458 and previously a 355.(incidently he said he'd never been so fast in a Ferrari in all his life and had no idea the Mondial was so quick) praise indeed for the Mondial, however this was a bit of an illusion since I was driving Kato rally style i.e. mostly sideways! Anyway, after that little jaunt, I noticed that Katos rear handbrake was making a slight squeeking noise and so decided to investigate. What I found was that the handbrake shoe retainer had broken probably due to age and fatigue, since I didn't have a replacement I decided to make one out of some model fastenings that I had kicking about, see pictures. Next up was my bloody oil cap, this was new only 12 months ago and yet already it's become corroded. Now I was going to make one in alloy but instead I took the cowards way out and powder coated it instead, I think it looks rather posh! See pictures. That's it so far, weather is lovely today so we will probably go for a blast down to the coast... see yawl! Well after 2 plus years of owning Kato I've finally got around to adjusting the headlights correctly. To be honest I've never really worried about it, even though the main beams are like a couple of candles with magnifying glasses in front of them. This is because I'm lucky to have the night vision of a bat! Actually I rarely drive on full beam for this reason even at really high speeds at night.(night driving is my favourite) Anyway the thing that made me fix this fault with the lights is that I decided to clean up the bug cemetary on the front of Katos grill and this included the lights. In doing this little task I lubricated all the adjustment screws on the lights etc. The result is bloody increadible!! Holy Cow as you chaps would say across the pond..putting the main beams on is like the sun just came up. These Mondial headlights are really, really bright to a bat sighted creature like me, I can see for miles down the road, it's quite a novelty. Anyway that's what I did to Kato today, appart from going out last night with my girl and taking on some of the local racers in this area.....Needless to say Kato always impresses the locals despite his age, he does now have quite a bit of a reputation! All the best Bell
Hi Todd, no I havn't yet, sorry I keep on meaning to do that with fitting instrutions etc. It's on my to do list coming soon. Cheers, Bell. ;-)
that picture of the brake, at first glance it looks like you have drum brakes, however i assume that your handbrake is the shoe type the opperates on a drum inside the brake disc, my mondial 8 handbrake opperates on the brake caliper, i thought they were all like that.
On my QV the rear discs have a drum for the handbrake. I think the problem with the caliper handbrake is that if the discs are hot and the handbrake is applied then as the disc cools the brake can slip, so they changed it. Regards Bell
