Hmmm - Interesting..... A few theories: 1. Driving a Mclaren requires all the rear view mirrors you can get so you can try and stop people passing 2. He's trying to do a Michael with mirrors to study the rear tires? 3. Trying to see which mount he prefers? 4. Some demon aero tweak? (I know the regs say you gotta have mirrors, but does it say you can only have two of 'em?......) BTW I *hate* those dumb looking "viking horns" on the thing.... Thx for posting, cheers, Ian
How about: 5. He simply sets fastest time at Sepang beating Massa by over a second. http://www.formula1.com/news/5850.html I maintain my Sepang forecast: 1. Kimi 2. Fred 3. Hamilton
here's another close up shot : i have this feeling that Mac's gonna mount the mirrors Ferrari style soon..
My prediction (if Kimi doesnt have to change an engine) 1. Kimi 2. Alonso 3. Massa 4. Hamilton My prediction (if Kimi does have to change an engine) 1. Alonso 2. Massa 3. Kimi 4. Hamilton
Good thinking (although I believe Lewis to be faster than Massa). How does it look like if there is a rain race? Massa's rather poor test times might be because of the wet test. PS: Kovalainen continues to suck. About 4 seconds off the pace.
Nicely put. I was looking at the times saying the same thing to myself (and trying to think of a nice way to put it), but you summed it up perfectly.
Honestly when it comes to rain I think both Kimi and Alonso are at the same speed level. They are not at the same level as Schumacher but I guess best of the current pack. I think Massa would not be as good as Kimi or Alonso. At one time I thought Barrichello was one of the best in the absolute wet conditions but he is way past his sell by date. No idea about Hamilton. I would have thought Jenson's and DC's smooth style would be perfect for wet conditions but both are hobbled with poor cars and DC is long in the tooth as well.
He actually had those on yesterday - at one point he had six on there. It was so he could see tire wear on the rear tires during long runs...........
Let's see how he does on race weekend. I hope he'll find the silver bullet or Briatore will do "a Trulli" on him. Pat Symonds said before Melbourne, that a rookie will make mistakes. True. But I think they also expect a rookie to be fast. Surprisingly also how Heidfeld is far off the pace. This after Kubica put in fastest time the previous day. This being Sepang, the Sauber team of course normally puts up a big show to please Petronas. So I'm really surprised Nick isn't faster.
First McLaren obviously designs their car with a stationwagon in mind. Than they add caravan-mirrors. Soon they'll have a company-golden retriever running around in the pitbox.
Personally I like the look of the McLaren cars, I think they did a nice job this year. It will be interesting to see if they end up going with the wider set pair of mirrors like the ferrari after these tests.
He's probably just seeing witch way he likes best. Could you imagine the 2 McLarens had two different mirror positions?
Or maybe it is to ensure that at least one set of mirror will stay on the car throughout the race unlike last year
it's really hard to predict the weather here. sometimes, it's hot, but sometimes, if we have rain, it's like a monsoon rain!
I read an interview with Nick saying that he was on worn tires and had engine problems. Mario also seems keen on keeping Nick in the car after his performance at Melbourne. He was taling about how "Nick could be a world champion in 09". So where does Vetttel fit into this? Would they really keep him as a test driver a few years? I doubt it, so is Mario just blowing smoke?
Obviously, McLaren doesn't agree with Raul Julia's "firsta rule of Italian driving: what'sa behind me is not important!"
I thought Mario's quote was they had "a" driver who could win the title in '09, not necessarily Nick. Honestly to me his statement was saying that anyone of the their three drivers, Nick, Vettel, or Kubica could win the title for the team. It was suspicious to me he didn't name one of his drivers as the their top contender. Made me feel he didn't want to offend the man in the drivers seat right now who maybe replaced soon. Which one that is I don't know, but I'm thinking if anyone Vettel will have th best shot at the title. Mark
i read about 2 days ago, Mario claimed that Nick can be champ. i think if he performed t/out the season like how he performed at melbourne, i expect him to get a contract extension.
+1 I got an interesting brochure about the new BMW Sauber with lots of interviews etc. Theissen's overall plan is to go for the title in 2008. The goal this year is the first victory. Theissen might be blowing smoke to please his sponsors, but he isn't that far off the mark: They turned the midfield Sauber team into a challenger for the top and I think their driver lineup is very promising.
