I have a 1979 308 GTB that the speedometer works perfect, and the miles Odometer starts and stops. I'm getting ready to pull the unit, and could use some help about the function of the odometer. Could it simply need lubrication or is there electronics associated?
    Thanks for any inputs.

I just want to maximize the depreciation. :)

I would probably fix it also. It would just bug me that it doesn't work. But I say that as someone who has a non-operating AC system, so maybe not really.

Yeah, I reread the post this morning. Apparently I need glasses. Would definitely send the unit off to Palo alto speedometer and have the repair documented. Opening it up yourself opens yourself to all sorts of conjecture.

Tony sent me an amazing description about how the speed/odo works, one of the best I've ever seen. I'll follow up with how the repair works out. After reading it, I suspect that I have a wire that needs to be re-soldered.
