Asking my track brothers and sisters. Do pads need to be replaced not due to wear but due to 1) excessive heating, as in track use; or 2) excessive heat cycles? I've never heard of either being a problem. In fact, you pretty much cook your pads in order to bed them. But am I wrong? Is there such a thing as an overheated carbon ceramic pad that needs replacing because of that?

There have been a few answers in the 458 Italia / 488 forum, but they may trigger more educated comments here - looking for those, here was my answer:

"I think when overheated the pads could turn white and then need replacement, but it's never been an issue for me because they wear so rapidly that they typically need replacement anyway. I suspect that when cooling down properly, it's only when they become thinner that they actually overheat, so they become white when they already need replacement."

To be more specific, I did not experience pads turned white when not already worn, but I suppose it could happen in theory.
