I am getting annoyed with the white powder coming out of the muffler (F360) and even wonder if it could be toxic... I looked for OEM ferrari muffler, but I get the impression that you have to buy the full exhaust system (part #174089 I think). Is it possible to purchase only the muffler?

174089 is just the muffler (item 23) $5183 from Ricambi. The muffler is stainless steel so not sure what the white powder is. Have you tried cleaning it?

Ebay. Don't pay over 200-300 for the muffler can IMHO.

Alternatively you can do the tubi route?

The OEM muffler is crap.... mine (2001 360 coupe) had the white powder coming out and the mounting brackets (welds) were cracking through. Don't waste your $$$ with OEM. Get a quality aftermarket muffler. You may want to replace the headers and CATs with something better than OEM crap. Do the search for cracking headers, etc...

I replaced the headers with Agency Power units. CATs are now Kinetix high flow CATs. Muffler is FabSpeed.

Ferrari seems not to learn from past experiences and apply to their new products!!!!!

Thanks. Am reluctant to use anything which is not OEM. But $5000 is a lot of money...for this.

Get Tubi or Fabspeed. OEM exhaust is junk, I too experienced the white powdery stuff on my. I had to clean it after every drive, it is a pain, not to mention oem exhaust weights a ton.

You will love the sound, power increase of aftermarket exhaust. It will most likely make you fall in love with the car all over again.

This sounds like a perfect time to upgrade the sound and performance of the car while also doing preventative maintenance. PM Sent :)

I wasn't necessarily recommending the OEM I just wanted to point out that that part number was just for the muffler and not the complete system. Agreed $5+k is riduculous for a muffler -- that would buy a complete system including headers on most cars.

I agree. Parts $$ are insane.. especially one that will spit white powder everywhere eventually. When I redo mine I'm going to the challenge exhaust.

I must be lucky because I have not noticed any white powder on mine. Where does it come from?

the powder comes from the exhaust, its the insulation inside the muffler and shoots out cracks and seams. Its not a big deal, when I can't see the red valve covers anymore I hose it down (ok, not that bad but its just dust on a motor, it wont hurt anything).

I don't want a noisy exhaust and will likely stay with OEM stock exhaust when its time to replace mine that is losing lots of white dust lately. My first choice would be Capistro twin sound but since next year I need cam seals, belts and a clutch, I need to save my penny's and a exhaust is last on my priority list.

Can't you seal the cracks and seams with a high temp material?

not really you can't. There was one person here who took his stock exhaust and had it seam welded and stopped the white dust but that is a ton of work and expense for such a minor thing (Guys, remember I daily drive my car, its not spotless like you expect yours to be). I have other issues with my exhaust to spend money on but like I said earlier, I know next year will be quite expensive maintenance wise so saving my penny's.

I have the same but again I'm not too fussed over it. I wonder with less insulation how much the exhaust is going to get louder though!

I'm sure welding is a good option though for a quick fix. Rear bumper off and a few welds that would cost £30. Alternatively I'm sure some high temp tape or exhaust filler would be a diy too.
