And keep the SF shields. Why get rid of them? Show where your love lies.

The rude question. What does something lie that cost to buy and run?

Man that's a LARGE front wing. Sounds like a huge amount of fun to be had in a beast like that.

Any idea how the brakes are going to handle the pace? The F3000 cars all have cast iron rotors rather than carbon/carbon don't they?

I'm guessing that some seriously sensitive throttle modulation will be required with that amount of grunt on tap .... even given those huge rear slicks. With those tyres it looks like you've got more contact with the road than a dead elephant, but that Cosworth lump is probably still going to give them a hard time.

Do let us know how you get on in it.

    Steve

PS Personally I would remove the SF shields but if you wanna keep them, more power to ya.

Beautiful and interesting car. I see what looks like an HSR sticker on the nose - where will you race it? Is it a BOSS car?

    Congratulations.

Oh, and I say go with you inclination to remove the shields. The car will speak for itself.

I'll be racing it in the BOSS Series with HSR & SVRA. in '05.
I'm going to give it a good going over and do a little testing first.
I've been racing for 10 years and am stepping up from a Formula Atlantic
so that's a decent transition. That being said this will require a lot of throttle modulation. I've also been racing motorcycles, I think that expierence will be helpful here. Putting down 155 hp to the rear wheel through a contact patch the size of a quarter has taught me to be very smooth on the throttle and brakes. Matter of fact motorcycle racing has really raised the level of my game in auto racing.

I'm 6'3" 225lbs and will fit once I do a little creative work in the footbox. Same thing I had to do in my Atlantic.

I haven't heard of any real problems with the cast iron rotors.
Braking should be unbelievable in this. I will probably be braking too early for a while. It makes over 4,000 lbs downforce at 200 mph and can generate over 3 G's on initial braking. As you slow down you need to ease up on the brakes a little as you lose down force.

If someone can host it, I can email a little .mpeg file of the engine starting up. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

    John,

I met a guy back in 02 at Summit Point raceway at the Jefferson 500 weekend. He had brought along two cars that looked very similar (and one was red with a Ferrari emblem). At first we thought they were Ferrari powered F1 Dalara's but he told us they were former F3000 cars that had been sent to Australia and raced there with Buick V6 engines. The guy that was preping them was from Florida and was importing a few of these each year for about $40-50K.

Is this is a similar car from the Australian series (former Euro F3000 cars)?

    Nice car !

    Jon,
What you saw at Summit Point was a Formula Holden car. It's a Reynard F3000 tub with a V6 Australian Holden engine in it. About 340 hp. Those prices sound about right for a Holden car.

This car was previously in the UK where it won the BOSS Championship before comming to the US. In proper F3000 trim these cars would have a 3.0L Cosworth DFV V8 with mechanical fuel injection making about 500 hp. Those are also old F1 engines and getting quite rare (and expensive) which is why many of the cars were subesquently upgraded to the later 3.5L Cosworth DFR engine with electronic fuel injection making about 600 hp. Because of this I will have to run in the F1 class not the F3000 class. I can't see spending good money to convert it back and make it go slower.
