Hey I was supporting you guys Aedo, I really enjoyed all my visits, but after all I am a kiwi. Sorry about that.
i did mention that i didnt really know about the kids thing, i just know a few well of people, but ive never known anyone to have a nanny. i just think perth is a little backwards. pretty, and modern. but backwards. and isolated.
I think lil squid is cancelling the trip! haha. I'm with Aedo on this one, as much as andecorps situation was bad/horrible, most people "visiting for 6weeks" wont be put into that situation of being under investigation for fraud. As with all major cities there are the good places and the horrible places and you can't say the whole place is bad based on certain areas.
beleive it or not, i think Alice Springs actually has the highest murder rate per capita in the world.
maybe it's the "this heat's a killer" statement that gets it across the line ? of course up here in QLD the govt is trying to turn us all into mass murderers with the "every k over is a killer" slogan, I've murderered more people than Jack the Ripper according to that line
i dont know how those figures were compiled, but im guessing its to do with the 'local' members of the population.
I have just returned to Melbourne after 4 years in Perth. Yes, it does have much higher crime statistics per '000 person, but unless you walk at night in Scarborough, Northbridge etc you can lead a pretty normal life. Home invasions are the main threat - but the cowards tend to pick on the elderly and in the outer suburbs. If you ever do need emergency services however, be prepared for a wait! The coverage per km is very bad. The weather is fantastic - this is the thing I miss the most as it enables you to have a much healthier lifestyle. Bike riding down the coast...tennis almost every week of the year. Perthites don't like people from 'over East'. They have a huge chip on their shoulder about being so remote. If you get in the right circles, you can be quite well excepted...in my case it was other 'foreigners' predominantly from the UK. Schooling is a little backward compared to the rest of Australia and bullying is tolerated as a part of growing up which was really hard to accept. My daughter was physically abused on several occasions and the school told me about what a bad homelife the bully had! As for childcare - there are excellent centres in Perth but you wont be able to get any vacancies for a short term booking. Families waitlist for years to get their children into a decent centre. I would suggest contacting the University of WA to try and get a uni student or alternatively, the HR Dept should be able to help at your company. Enjoy the beaches and the weather! You will need a car if your husband and daughter need to get around. There is not much to see that close to the city.
According to Google's 1st pick it is http://www.abc.net.au/pm/stories/s635701.htm According to wki, Brazil wins handsdown.
yeah wouldnt feel to safe going there, but what is it per capita? vs Alice? i wiki'd Alice and it did say Alice had the highest murder rate in Aus. but i cant recall where i read that it was the highest per capita in the world, i did try to find it.
God, what have I started! LOL Thank you for the insights, good or bad they are all useful. Aedo, looking forward to meeting you too! And in case any of you know someone who would like to work as a nanny for a few weeks to a cutest 16-months old boy for fair wages, let me know Yuliya
