Amsterdam used to have a big harbor. That specific building at the corner of the Vijzelstraat and the Prinsengracht used to be the headoffice for the cities council of fishing sailors. Here they did all the paperwork. Now the harbor is a lot smaller and these kind of offices have disappeared. I think that it is now an office for the ABN-AMRO bank.
Thank you Ton ! I thought it might have been something like that, or perhaps a memorial to fisherman lost at sea or a similar memorial.
No, it is definitely not a memorial. At that time they had all kind of statues and large icons on the buidings to represent the buildings function. Memorials for lost fisherman you will find in every semi-large fishing village along the coast. Did you see the special drawings, sculptures and other icons on the older houses alongside the canals? Those are beautiful.
Yes, my daughter and I took a canal tour and of course did a lot of walking as well so we saw many of these beautifully carved gables. I especially like the one with Poseidon...
Hi Everyone, Debs and I got back from Malta on Monday...we had a great time in the SUN!! Excellent seafood every night - a really nice destination. PROBLEM - got back to Mud Island, switched on my computer, and the 200gb Hard Disk Drive decided to burn out! Anyway, to cut a long story short, I threw a fair amount of money at the situation, and I have all data recovered, and two 300gb disks for backing up my precious files...yes, 600gb!! (I have a lot of digital photos). Phew!! Also been busy at work... Other bad news for the week. Since Saturday, two motorcycles have been stolen from the "secure underground parking" in my building! The reason I bought this place was to get the great parking for my motorcycles and Ferrari!! Now is seems that someone has an electronic pass and a Transit van to just drive in at 02h30, and to load up locked motorcycles!! The one that was stolen on Tuesday night was THREE METRES from my Ferrari and two of my motorcycles. SCHEISSE!!! I am paranoid at the moment!! Every night at midnight I go into the basement and move my wife's car in front of the Ferrari so that the thieves will have a problem stealing it. Only problem is, I'm scared that they will try to take my BMW motorcycle and damage (or vandalise) my car. Scheisse......... Tonight I also applied the additional padlock security trick that Eugenio showed me in Andermatt. To hell with these arseholes!! Stressed out, MARK
Hmm real men do not take backups eh??? Glad you restored it all!!! GOSH I would go nuts if it was me! what are they going to do about it?? nothing? No new/better locks???
Dear Mark & Debs, thanks a lot for the SMS`s from Malta. got them both but couldn`t reply with my high tec mobil - I`m too stupid with and the technic is too complicate. Back on your *beloved* mud island and back in trouble. Sad to hear so. God bless the datas are all backed up ....thought so I remember the pics from your house and garage.......mhmmmmm. Don`t you have a security service? Alarm system? Moving alarm? Anyway, move over to Heidelberg a.s.a.p.!!!!!!! Hope to CU & Debs soon again for a relaxed beer. Any news about "little Mark"? Best Wolfgang
Now i have kept quiet for too long @Malfark... do you and debs expect a little new??? If so, Congrats a lot from Denmark!!! When is it to be?
pfff...that really s$%%cks........ Please buy a good alarm...it must awfull to sleep bad because of being afraid somebody touches your car.
Hi Tina, We are expecting a boy at the end of May!! He is VERY special because he was conceived in....COPENHAGEN!! I told you we had a good long-weekend in Denmark!! It's that Viking fertility statue in the centre of town, I'm sure!! Later, MARK
I have a good immobiliser on the car, but not on the bikes. In any event, the two bikes that were stolen had hi-tech sensor systems, and they were taken! So I don't know what to do! I have send a long and urgent letter to the management company, as have other people in our complex. Sorry Prague...all is forgiven! Cheers, MARK
Hi Wolfgang, I now have 1.2 terabytes of HDD and 600 gigabytes of that is dedicated to backups!! I am terrified of losing almost my entire life!! Pautz junior is doing OK - Debs is getting a few footprints on her stomach from all the kicks now, and it's unreal to think that we will be parents "next month"! Aaaaarrgghhh!!!!! Nur einige mehr Jahre auf der Insel. Sie kennen die Geschichte! Later, MARK
Thanks Tina - I have done a Google search and only found Nagel Fur for PhotoShop....I have not found it for Paint Shop Pro. By the way, I have just upgraded to PSP 9.0.1.1 and am still trying to get used to it. In some respects it seems a little slower, but I guess I just have to get used to it. Until I do, I will keep version 8 loaded up! Chers, MARK
I have also both versions at my pc mostly because i have saved a lot in PSP8 ... like different brushes and plugins... that way they will work in PSP9 too. I'm not sure if you could just install Nagel in PSP too? Sometimes PSP can deal with PS plugins
weeeee you are not joking about the Copenhagen part are you??? Congratulations to you and Debs It's sooo great to hear
This will be the most documented child in the history of the world..think of all the data and photo's you can collect?!! There might not be a spreadsheet big enough
I went with Zoe to Stone Henge today - took the Ferrari but this is the closest it got! Image Unavailable, Please Login
