Do you guys think that in a few years or so that Porsche will make a follow up to the Carrera GT? I know Porsche has said that the Carrera GT in direct competition with the Enzo and with Ferrari most likely building a new flagship supercar for release in the next couple of years it would be nice to see Porsche bring out something to trump their almighty CGT.

    Doubtful.

Though it likely wound up being profitable, Porsche only sold 60% of the units they set out to sell originally.

And because of the soft demand, combined with increasing safety regs which would have required a few changes, they've officially cancelled the final year of production.

    Great car.

My guess is that they will... but i think they will skip a generation of Ferrari supercar. I kind of see the CGT as a distant successor to the 959... but that may just be me.
    They may....
    They may not...
i think we will just have to let time show if they will or wont.

Walk into a Porsche dealership, you will see 2-3 never titled Carrera GT's.

Walk into an official Ferrari dealership, no Enzo's or FXX's.

Both my friends with Porsches suggest that even hard core Porsche big $$$ fanatics would have been more enthusiastic if the car did not have a "kit car" look in most colors. They sure sound great when accelerating though.

While the GT is a beautiful car, it really was a departure from the norm for Porsche. Porsche has the entry point Boxster at 1/10th the cost. I feel that when you want to do upscale you have to have some exclusive nature to your brand name. Porsche attempted to have a product for every budget, high end buyers tend to not want to lumped in with the masses. Had Porsche discontinued the Boxster and released the GT it could have been viewed as a changing of direction to the high end. Porsche should have created a new company to sell the GT, but utilizng their existing dealer network. The Japanese concluded 20 years ago that if you want to sell a high end Nissan or Toyota, do it under a different name.

I feel that the obvious answer without question would have always been yes.....with "when" being the real question. I agree with PAG possibly skipping a generation of Ferrari models or two beforehand. The fact that they only sold 1,000 cars to date means nothing and does not make the car a failure.........Ferrari could have only sold 700-1,000 Enzo's probably as well......if they were committed to filling whatever orders they could get on their books........think about it...........

I think that Porsche has enough brand cache to sell a car like the CGT without creating a new brand - which would have required a lot more investment to market a new line.

I doubt they will try and top the CGT for a while - given its slow sales. I think they overshot their estimates of the high end car market.

I think it would be interesting to compare the CGT's life to the F40 - both are 'raw' supercars, both had many produced. But F40's were in higher demand, had longer production run and still fetch prices near their MSRP 13-18 years later.

Was it the superheated Japanese economy of the late 80's? Was it the more radical looks? Did the CGT look too much like the other Porsches?

That said, I'd still like one someday.

Definitely not. Porsche pushed the limits of today's technology. I don't see how Porsche could possibly improve upon the CGT, without pushing the price to seven figures and sacrificing durability

Perhaps in 10 years or more, there will be some new technology and Porsche can push the envelope again.

So unless Porsche is going to create something totally different (AWD, 800 bhp), we will be waiting a while

^agreed. I don't think we'll see another Porsche hypercar until technology progresses enough to make a car different from the CGT with the same purpose.

Will they ever make something like a GT1 ever? Like twin turbo flat 6. And have a stripped interior like a gt3.

They've built about 3 as many CGT's as they did Enzo's. The real question with the CGT is, will it appreciate in value. This was assumed with the Enzo.
