Here's a couple of Long Beach GP photos, a start, and a podium. The start looks like Reuteman is on pole, and Gilles outside, Lauda in the Alfa just behind them. A Lotus, probably Andretti is a bit further behind. The podium is definetely Reuteman (Ferrari) winning, then would it be Depallier (Tyrrell) second and Andretti (Lotus) third, or Andretti second and Depallier third? I do remember the young lady in the upper right corner though, sigh, what a woman:

Sorry Jack, I remember using one camera, and them switching to another to take a photo for myself. I did this with most starts. This is the only photo I have for myself. I did not use my motor drive, I felt it was more artistic (read anal) to take photos the regular way. I have since learned that this philosphy is only good for sex, not photgraphy, if you get my meaning.

Since IRL and Champ Car seem to be one again, in honor of that wisdom here is one from the days American open wheeled racing was fun. This is Mario, driving for Penske, I think I shot this from the roof of one of the grandstands at Indianapolis. Another stupid move on my part, if I remember correctly, there were no railings and the wind blew like a tornado. I could have ended up in someone's box lunch in a lower grandstand.

Yes Ron but you are still here therefore it was not a stupid move: you created a special memory for yourself!

I felt the same way at Le Mans in the mid 80's when I would hike to the back of the track (8 miles long) and sneak towards the Mulsanne straight (3 , yes three miles long) where cars reached 220, 230 240mph yes miles per hour and in 1989 250mph, 400kph: that area was strictly forbidden to the public but I just snaked my way throuhg the woods and it was awesome: the headlights they used were hyper powerful and it was like low flying aircraft: my survival instinct kept me behind 3 rows of trees because I knew that when it went wrong there it was like an aircraft crash. I will never forget that.

    Yep, that's me, Indy 84.

Forgot about the Mallory picture, that was a turning point for that season. Arthur remember the Rondel F2 at Croft?

I found another photo of Mario Andretti in the Lotus at Watkins Glen. This was in the "good old days" when they let idiot photgraphers stand right up on the guard rails that were up against the tarmac:

Thanks Dan. Curious, does Andretti have a big nose or is that the angle of the photo?

The intermeditate time that there was an Aston Martin race car, although not really very successful, it did carry the marque. Shot at the Miami Grand Prix when it really was that, and it ran through the streets of downtown:

Long Beach Grand Prix. My memory fails me as to the date, and I am too lazy to find the slide and look at the imprint. This is Jody Scheckter in the Wolf, followed by Patrick Tambay in the McLaren. I always liked the Walter Wolf GP car, does anyone remember its best finish? Long Beach:
