That nose isn't very nice on the eyes. Walrus tusks for sure.

I really like the look of the F138. But in the end, who cares if its a winner. I really like the nose/pylon/wing/modesty we have come up with. The pylons look like they are hanging off the modesty cover, whatever, it is a very creative front and the team has somehow managed to get the nose higher which will be very handy IMO.

Agreed! They have the best driver, now all they have to go is make the car.

Lotus E21 is quite a dissappointment, it's remarkably similar to E20 down to the suspension pickup points. I'm not expecting a lot from them this season.

I'm not sure, their package last year was fairly decent (but could of course be improved upon). Maybe I'm being biased but what Lotus and Red Bull are doing (evolving last years car) *could* be the thinking mans best plan (only when your package was good to start off with, mind). Next years cars are going to be radically different than this years, so developing another radical concept for just the 2013 season might be a huge waste. Mclaren having gone pull rods at the front could mean they have a bigger learning curve this year compared to Ferrari, who should by now understand their concept of last year.

I'm just looking at it with the idea of next years cars going be so different. IF they improved last years cars enough they could focus more on next years car. I believe Lotus and Red Bull are the only 2 ''top 5'' teams that haven't got a full time team working on 2014.

Confirmed Mercedes is indeed covering the driveshaft and partially integrating with the rear suspension.

Ferrari, Mclaren, Red Bull have their driveshafts covered as well.

Red Bull and Mercedes are running very similar rear suspension in that the lower a-arm placement is behind the pull rod and are very small.

    "Brake cooling ducts?"....... Hmmmmm....... ;)

Had to lighten the pic some to get 'em visible. Not sure Charlie's gonna be too happy - Need to check, but didn't he want 'em to stop trying to get aero benefit from the ducts? Those fins etc sure aren't there to cool the brakes!

Anyone know if Charlie's on site?

Also not sure why they (& the Cans) are covering the driveshafts - I guess to get the rotation out of the airstream. The ass end is now that sensitive I suppose!......

    Cheers,
    Ian

The spinning driveshaft creates a Magnus effect which has an undesired effect on exhaust gas flow. The boundary layer it creates around itself (the spinning driveshaft) mucks with exhaust flow control. Also I believe the driveshaft wing concept to add a few points on its own merit as it is above all else a wing in a very good place!

And just to further clarify, covering the driveshaft with bodywork is NOT allowed per the rules but everyone is getting away with it now as they are integrating covering the driveshaft with suspension a-arms, and suspension is not considered bodywork. Clever

Makes sense I guess...... As I said, it appears to all be about controlling flow at the rear.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Nothing tops Ferrari's complete and utter meltdown of the new car a couple years ago on the first day of testing. Thing about burned to the ground due to the engine blowing up I believe.

Man I love these shots of the back ends. Super complex. Maybe the 2013 car will be a little less twitchy. Let's hope so. Clifford was just too much to handle.
