15302 sold at auction on Tuesday, via the www.iaai.com salvage sales website. I was not able to watch the auction in live time. By the time I checked back in, the auction was listed as complete, and I could not find the final price. Now the website does not even list the car (it was item number 33102523). Hopefully it gets resurrected and not scrapped.

No, iaai seems to be a different company. Physically the car was in South Dakota at their auction, which was also available online. 15302 had an engine fire.

I’ve tried getting some leads on the Copart car, as I’d love to buy the interior, but it’s a pretty elusive site. They don’t tell you when it will be auctioned or really any info on it at all. I’m not sure I understand the reasoning behind just sitting on the car, perhaps to drive more interest.

Why would anybody spend money to restore that? I figured a serious DIY guy.

My understanding is that the buyer restores cars mostly on his own account. Whether he sells them on after completion I don’t know.

Some people with the means, simply don't care about the economics of a restoration. They just want a nice example to enjoy, price be damned. Astute shoppers at auctions can pick them up when the owner tires of them for a good price. :)

I'm back and forth w the Boxer paint job on these, leaning 'dislike'.
(Especially on lighter colored cars). This one, however, looks to be the one to buy. Immaculate.

I’m not a fan of the Boxer paint either.
This looks to be an immaculate example, just a shame it’s a US version. Ugly bumpers and side repeaters and 40bhp short.

This one could be stolen if bidding doesn’t pick up. No reserve.

The U.S. bumpers aren’t so bad if they’re properly retracted, especially on darker color cars.

The Euro cars are a no-go in California, the biggest market, unless they’re 1974-75 manufactured cars due to emissions restrictions.

Wow what an excellent example. USA even! I love the boxer paint on that. I wanted on of those so bad when they first came out. I wanted a Boxer more, but these boxer-308s were the closest one could get.

Are the Euro bumpers more attractive? That's a matter of opinion, but I do agree that Euro bumpers do look better. However, that doesn't mean US bumpers are ugly, they're just not what folks outside of the US are used to seeing. Here in the US, EVERY SINGLE CAR from that era had hug bumpers, it's perfectly normal for us. And for me, that just lends to its iconic '70s quirkiness. The side markers were also a US thing, and they're horrid as well. For some reason, those bug me way more than the bumpers ever did (hence the reason I removed them from my car). Boxer paint… eh, not for me, but it works on a lot of the cars. If I was in the market, I would definitely be bidding on this one. But what bugs me most is it's red. The 308 GT4 came in such a wide variety of interesting colors, it's a shame that so many owners painted them red (not sure if this one was originally red, or if it's been repainted). Anyway, it looks to be a great example and whomever wins this auction will have a great car!

Frankly I think that in profile, if the bumpers are properly retracted, they look better than the euros. They give the front some additional length that resolves the design, but the end caps are still problematic.

It’s funny now that I have a car to look at in person, the US bumpers are actually really well integrated into the general aesthetics of the car. The front bumper continues the wedge shape, where as the Euro bumpers kind of abruptly discontinue the wedge. In person I love a Euro car, because the round side markers are really nice and the chrome of the bumpers gives a nice color contrast. However the US bumper serves its design purpose. I think of it in terms of the series 1 Lotus Esprit, if the car had a stumped up nose, it wouldn’t look quite as “70’s” wedge shaped. Like you said, especially when retracted they look fine especially with a darker color or boxer trim.

I think it would have done better in a private sale. The problem with auctions is the inability (usually) to inspect and drive the car. No matter how good the presentation there’s always at least the subconscious feeling that that you’re spending a lot of money on something you’ve never touched or even seen, much less driven and inspected. And then there’s the emotion associated with being physically involved with the car before purchasing which can help the price. I think it’s a $150K car in a direct sale.
