Have not tried contacting the seller on that CL car, John.

    Here's a 1975 GT4 (chassis 10696) at Independent Ferrari Service (I have no affiliation):

1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 at Independent Ferrari Service in South Easton, MA

I called to find out more info on this GT4 as it's priced at $12K and the site says that it "needs #6 piston and cylinder re-work". I spoke with John Tirrell the owner of IFS who really knows his way around a Ferrari and was very up front that it would cost between $10-$12K to get his engine running again. It dropped a cylinder and needs a rebuild. I'm sure plenty of FCahatters can vouch for John and IFS.

John's reputation is more than solid. He maintained my car for the previous owner.
What other work does he recommend?

Those things are easy fixes once you find a strong car.
At any given time the choices are limited. unless you're willing to wait an indeterminate time (while prices rise) for a perfect spec car you might do better buying now.

John said the car won't win any shows but is a solid driver and a 7 out of 10 once the engine is back in shape. Paint is good and interior is in nice shape. Also mentioned that he's owned 4 GT4s: 2 1975s, a 1978 and 1979 and loved all of them. He's worth calling just to get to know and is really happy to share info about his experience with GT4s.

I know just this one will be a keeper and I want it to be right. I am not a fan of red on a GT4 (no offense to any red GT4 owners). I just prefer darker colors on this car.

In order of desirability for my tastes:
    blu scurro dino
    grigio ferro
    blu serra
    rosso rubino
    prugna

There was a silver/black boxer paint Euro car sold a few months back that I should have bought. I was not seriously looking for a GT4, saw the car online and the more I thought about it the more I realized how much I liked the design. When I called the dealer the next week he had just got off the phone with someone that had committed to buy the car. Day late and a dollar short!

Nice, your speed and astute execution is an inspiration!

Feel free to feed the lust with a few pictures highlighting the differences between Series I and II Euros.

    Thank you!

Just noticed that the first pic has Euro rear bumper and the second pic has a US spec bumper. Something is a little fishy.

This is a partially completed project car. I interpreted the first pic as a teaser of what it could like once completed. YMMV.

Ye olde '74 Euro ain't bad either Sir Robert!

Permagrin from a (cold) blast around wine country Saturday not yet faded. And this with wife and child weight penalty (not that I'm complaining, that's half the fun--my 6 yr. old is learning what a proper drivetrain sounds like).

I may need to rack up some miles on this little beasty.

    Forza Dino.

I'm jealous of you both-but I did drive mine (at granny speed) around the inside of the warehouse it's stored in this morning. Hey, it beats not driving it at all, at least for the next few months

If this was avail when I bought my car I would have bought this. Anything can happen with cars this old but if you work the right deal up front with these guys you could be driving away with a full rebuild for the price of a typical solid driver--also have them change the valves out to stainless steel (I'm sure they would offer to for a few $$s more)

Yep, in dollars it just seems pretty high. The market different there on GT4's? I wish mine was worth $40k+!

    It is.

    Just not around here.
    ;)

If you could get that price you'd be miserable. Either you'd have to sell or feel guilty for not cashing out. Either way you lose.
Better to be undervalued but loved.
