BaT brings very strong money for most cars but it seems Ferraris lag a little there....I’m sure Hymans reserve will b high...watching his stuff over the years I think he has wrung a lot of dollars out of a lot of ppl and cars....good for him... for me I try to buy private party....

 

RNM on the yellow Hymans car. Not surprising given last asking price. Trying to cash in on hot market.

 

I think mileage isn't the only driver of value and that markets fluctuate with time, supply, demand, and trends.

 

Strange car offered at Mecum Auction next Saturday. Exterior look like nice but the engine bay ...
Anyone can confirm the S/N and/or history of this car ?

Any comment here since 5 months ? There is no more 328 market ???

In the past 5 months 7 328s were sold on Bring a Trailer for between a low of $64,555 and a high of $213,000.

 

Looked at what is for sale a week or two ago and asking prices seem to be going up in the US compared to when I bought mine 2 1/2 years ago. Several higher mileage cars (+50K) for over $100K. There were several $60-70K cars back then and I don't see any of those anymore.

 

I've only had my 328 for ~7 months, and the prices have risen since then. Keeping fingers crossed that they hold, though no intention of selling.

 

Isn’t an extremely low mileage car also a risk. I prefer cars that have been driven 1000 miles per year, therefore 35000 miles and regular maintenance for a 35 year old car looks great to me.

 

There's difference between a very low mileage car that hasn't been driven in years (probably needs a major service and various rubbers hoses and gaskets replaced so that's going to be over $10 to $15K to make it drivable), and a low mileage car that gets driven and gets regular maintenance regardless of how few miles the vehicle gets driven.

In addition, I know guys who bought used Porsches and Ferraris with 30-40K miles on them, and they end up spending thousands of dollars sorting the car. There are never any guarantees with what one will be spending on service or repairs regardless of mileage.

 

This auction still has some time left but bidding seems suspiciously low at $40,328 (ha, I get it). Am I not seeing something that others are?

I looked at that one, asked for more info, and left some comments. I think this car was sitting around for several years and the seller (a dealer) did a lot of catch up work within the last couple months to get it into drivable condition. But it's lacking any good documentation and I saw a bunch of issues in the photos. Maybe my opinion would change with a detailed inspection, but I didn't even think it was worth the trouble to initiate that. I don't know if there is a reserve but I feel like this one doesn't have a lot of meat left to bid against.

 

Interior inaccurately/poorly retrimmed with pipping I've never seen on the seats of a 328 and on the door cards, and the arm rest/map pockets were removed/missing? Carpeting also not correct factory carpeting with odd piping/trim. Probably other stuff that isn't right and condition is maybe average at best.

 

Don't you see other(s) nicest 328 for sale in US ?

For an 89, seats are wrong, wheels are pre-89 and the steering wheel is wrong. Didn’t know you could put the older wheels on an 89.

 

Looks like the seats and door panels have been redone in the wrong patterns. You can bolt up the old wheels but they stick out as you can see in the photos. The newer suspension was designed for the newer design wheels with more negative offset. Using the older wheels will hurt the handling.

BringATrailer (BaT) results for the last 6 years, I thought some of you may find this interesting.

• the 2 high points were extremely low mileage examples (<1K miles)
• 3rd highest was a one-owner, 7K mile car
• the 3 lowest points were an engine, wheels, and luggage

 

There are 9 photos in that listing and I managed to find something wrong in almost every one. That doesn't bode well!

 

Anyone know if this sold or if it's run yet? The Mecum auction is still ongoing, but wanted to see what it brought if it sold. Thanks.
