I was very privileged to see a sneak preview of Alberto's new book the other day. I think anyone who loves handcrafted luxury items, behind the scenes anecdotes of the protagonists of Ferrari in the day and information that you can only find from someone who lives and breathes the Schedoni company, Alberto's new book will be a very unique and valuable reference edition to any Ferrari library. Thank you, Mark: glad to hear you liked it. The standard English edition has been finally sent to printing this wednesday: what an effort, for me and for the editor, Artestampa, from Modena. I also have some more details about the English special limited edition: 141 numbered copies, boxed, hardcover, official branded Schedoni leather bound, high end paper, each signed by Simone Schedoni. Price: 700 euro each. It will be ready for shipping more or less in September or October: we have to wait for Schedoni production times of the cover, handcrafted. Who wants to reserve a copy and maybe to ask for having a specific copy number, can contact me via PM here or at my email: [email protected] Ciao
Does anyone have news about the upcoming 550 Maranello Prodrive book from Girardo? It should have been released or at least presented during this Goodwood weekend, if memory assists me, but no words since months.
Received today from Porter Press the new Breadvan book by Heseltine. Unfortunately this book too arrived damaged (like the GTO book last week), despite a proper box which wasn't damaged at all. Nobody seems to care. No further comment. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sorry to hear another book arrived damaged at your doorstep. How's your relationship with Swiss Post?? Would like to learn about your experience with Porter Press' customer service in such cases. Besides damage, can you give us an insight of it's content? I have 'Rebel Rebel' and in doubt if this book is 'needed'?
Delivery was by DHL, nothing to do with Swiss Post. I have informed Porter Press of this damage as well and supplied 14 photos showing damage and also condition of shipping package/cardboard box (which was not damaged at all). In both cases (GTO book and Breadvan book) the shipping box/cardboard wasn't damaged at all but the actual books must haven fallen to the floor first before they were put into the cardboard package. Just teasing you a littlebit Marcel, i know Porter uses DHL for delivery... My GTO book luckily arrived in pristine condition. Had less luck with the 2nd edition of the 300S book by Dalton Watson. It was sealed but had several marks running through a large number of pages. Their customer service experience was excellent. Within 4 days i received an replacement sent directly from their printer. But i'm with you, it shouldn't have been sent out in the first place. Yes, but these types of books are almost never available in bookstores except from a very few specialists who are almost exclusively in densely populated urban centers. We are at they mercy of the machines and people who pack and transport them. Unfortunately these books score the trifecta of potential disaster.....expensive, heavy and far away......
You're quite right. And more, and more of these specialised shops are disappearing, thanks to the wonders of Amazon et all.
I know of none in the U.S. off hand except the one in Michigan and the one in the LA area, and the fact that I can’t recall their names is telling. Also, these small specialty publishers aren’t really attractive to the chain bookstores. Nobody’s going to walk in to Barnes & Noble and buy a $650 book about the 250GTO that some freeloader spent an hour with in the store’s coffee shop.
In LA: Autobooks-Aerobooks https://www.autobooks-aerobooks.com In Michigan: Pasteiners www.pasteiners.com You're welcome.
Or they spend an hour at the specialty retailer, thumbing their merchandise, and subsequently ordering from Amazon for a few bucks less.
All these damages have zero to do with the shipping company such as DHL, TNT, Fedex, whatever. In my two cases it is very clear that the books were already damaged before they closed the shipping box/cardboard and handed over to DHL. The boxes were not damaged or altered in anyway when they arrived at my doorstep. Just the contents were damaged. As for professional shippers the ONLY ones I can recommend are Fedex, first class, top priority service. Yes, they are twice as expensive as all the others but their service is top. I always ask the stores to send me the stuff I order by Fedex at my cost. Sometimes the store doesn't want to do that, unfortunately. Marcel Massini
This is one very disturbing thing: when a book is damaged I don’t even want to look into it. Seems I’m not the only one...
That’s true up to a (price) point, but even Amazon doesn't carry many of the titles we discuss here, or the other books produced by those publishers.
Marcel, fully aware the problem had nothing to do with whatever courier. Hence my last sentence; 'the books should not been sent out this way'.
IMHO the most disturbing thing is the publishers' quality control. And i would be interested for the book's content. At least you know to ask for a refund or replacement copy...
Living in Melbourne, Australia there are very few specialist motoring bookstores around, and with the poor exchange rate and soaring cost of shipping, some of the more expensive books are either too expensive to order for their shelf or require a committed deposit before ordering (with no guarantee of arriving undamaged).
