The book of the month in the current issue of Classic & Sportscar is The Past and the Spurious by Paul Griffin (see https://www.paulgriffinauthor.co.uk/product/the-past-and-the-spurious/). I mention it here, although I haven't seen a copy myself, because I wasn't otherwise aware of it. It is about the legitimacy of the history of some classic cars with reference to particular legal cases (some including Ferraris) and might be of interest to those who have followed one or two such contretemps through this website and elsewhere.

Excellent. Of the two books I’m more interested in this one. Does anyone know this author?

I don't know the author, but certainly the photographer... Bernard Cahier is/was one of the top tier automotive photographers of any era. His individual photos sell for a lot these days. Proably a very worthwhile book.

I wonder if any of those Cahier photos have never been published before. His stuff appeared everywhere, it seemed.

Good question. The description does not say, so most likely many of his well known previously published images.

Here is a very nice preview of the book about Philippe Gardette:
    https://www.blurb.com/books/11296841-philippe-gardette-la-passion-de-la-m-canique

Looks very nice and thoroughly researched with much period footage - if only it had been written in English ... :(

The GTO (288) book by Delius Klasing has now been published and can be ordered from the publisher or book shops.

I am still undecided, but in the end, I am afraid there will be no alternative than to order it ;) Will be interesting to see how Lewandowski added material to the GTO story of his first (art&car) book.

He wrote a 250 GTO book a couple years ago. It had ok but not great reviews. I didn't buy it in the end myself so can't give you a first-hand view.

Regarding the first book, Philippe Gardette was the Ferrari dealer in Clermont Ferrand (the hometown of Michelin) at the time Charles Pozzi was the importer for France.

Just too busy now to get involved with a translation sorry. I did the Pozzi book but those were different times for me, juggling too many balls in the air now.

Is anybody familiar with the Bernard Asset series? I’m interested in the Andretti book but it doesn’t appear to be too deep, fewer than 200 pages according to the description.

Better try to get hold of a copy of now sold out 'Mario Andretti: A Driving Passion' by Gordon Kirby for David Bull Publishing. I can already smell that the above titles are low on substance (limited, numbered edition).

Yes, I think they’re mostly picture books. Any thoughts on the Jim Hall bio? I don’t recognize the author. Since the cover touts the photography I wonder about the editorial content. Hall certainly deserves a thorough biography. John Barnard’s opinion of him would surprise a lot of people, I think.

Bernard Asset was one of the very top F1 photographers from the 1970s onwards (in my opinion, the very best, in fact). Most notably his work graced Grand Prix International magazine. That the books you mention have his name on them tells you that they are primarily picture books (and that the pictures will be exceptional). As it happens, I ordered the Schumacher and Laffite books a couple of days ago (I didn't order the Andretti volume as it isn't published yet and is also more expensive). I will post an overview when they arrive so you will know what to expect of the Andretti book. However, if what you are looking for is some kind of biography or similar, I am sure this won't be it. You can see some sample pages on the publisher's website here: https://redrunner.fr/en/produit/mario-andretti-2/

Thanks. Yes, I’m hoping for a definitive biography or an update of Kirby’s excellent book.
