I also just received my copies of Ed Niles' book and the F40 book, but both in standard / unsigned editions because I guess I'm a cheap guy Ordered from Motors Mania, and as usually delivered in a very robust packaging, so that there was no chance any of them could get the slightest damage during shipping. Both books seem to be very nice reads, although I did not have time yet to browse them extensively. I know that will be considered nitpicking, but it's the first time I experienced the following with a brand new book that was never open before - some folding on one page as can be seen below (on the red page): Image Unavailable, Please Login
My copy of F40 has the same folding, i think, it's some sort of production error. But no great deal for me, the book in general has been nicely produced.
Look what the mailman bringeth. Been looking forward to this. For the record standard version #426. Bought from Motors Mania in France, impeccable service and packaging. Will share my humble opinion in a month or two but expect it to be most positive. Now if you'll pardon me I have some reading to do
I picked up the new Ferrari 288 GTO book by Jürgen Lewandowski at my local bookstore. I haven't read it yet but made a couple of pictures. Looks good. I just wonder if it adds anything further to the GTO story over the Joe Sackey book. I didn't realise they were limited to 1,500 copies and came in presentation boxes.
I am a main contributor to the new Lewandowski 288 GTO book and have added a full list of all cars built with S/N, engine and body numbers, dates and original dealer. I also supplied a large number of period photos. Plus a list of all F1 drivers that owned a 288, and a ton of other material. Marcel Massini
Chassis 50253 is listed as renumbered by the factory into 79887, shown early 1990 at Galleria Ferrari and in 2009 still at the Galleria. However, a separate detailed history is shown for chassis 79887 for this period with events in Italy and the UK. My notes list the car at Galleria Ferrari in 1990 as 70205?
I have bought far worse Ferrari books claiming to be "must have's" or classics then that one over the years !!
Other than Amazon, where would be the best place to be to purchase this book in the US? I buy a ton of stuff from Amazon, however books are not packed very well at all.
I know, right? I just got a book that was shipped just loose in an oversize box with no bubble wrap or protection of any sort...
Finally I take, piloti Che gente, first edition 1983 in Italian in new condition, piece of history Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That seems to be Amazon's standard operating procedure for heavy books. I can not even begin to count the number of times they have destroyed or damaged a book I have ordered because of this. Strangely, they are really good at reshipping damaged books or giving them to you for free, yet they never learn how to pack them right...
It boggles the mind how some people or companies package books for shipping. I've had many eBay sellers go into great detail about the mint condition of the book they are selling (with photos of all the perfect edges and cover) only to be placed in either a flimsy envelope or random box with minimal protection and just posted off. The book wouldn't last 5 minutes undamaged let alone on an international flight and through the many hands it goes through to get to me. Online certainly has it's advantages but there is something to be said for choosing a book off a store shelf and taking it home under your own care.
Interesting about Amazon. I also have been sent books like stated above but just yesterday I received a heavy 75th Anniversary Porsche book I ordered six months ago and it was really packaged in one of the special book boxes (double cardboard). Shows they can do it if they want.
