Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. I've actually had a greater response here than in my thread in the 206/246 forum.

And Nathan.....You're too modest! I'll be getting your book for sure.

    Hi Jack
Seriously - don't pay too much and don't expect too much. It's not like my Boxer book; it was written to a budget, to Haynes specifications.

    Hello from Germany,

according to the latest brochure I got from Palawan Press today, they have further 32 copies of Ferrari in Camera in stock. ( long sold out clothbound edition at GBP 750,-- ). Reason for this ? They are writing the following:
    .....
' to meet the demand for this sought after book, the Publisher is now releasing 32 clothbound copies. A number of copies of the edition bound in 1995 did not meet our quality standard and were destroyed. Book blocks from the original printing have been assigned the limited edition numbers from these copies and have been painstakingly bound by hand in red buckram. This completes the clothbound edition of 1000 copies.'
    ...........

In my opinion this might be the very last occasion to get this book for a quite fair price. O.k.; it's still significantly more, than what I have paid, back in 1996, but significantly less, than what most booksellers charge.
( Palawan's example they mention in the brochure: ' ... at the Bonham's auction at the Goodwood Revival this year, a copy of the standard edition sold for GBP 920,--, almost three times the original retail price. Published in 1995, the standard edition sold out by 2001, and at the time of writing this, there are only three copies remaining in the leatherbound edition....')

    Best Regards from Germany

    Martin

Opposites in the spectrum of "worth it":

That Ferrari in Camera is amazing. It seems everyone that has bought it never seems to regret it. Always gets rave reviews. Always on my Christmas list but Santa aint listening...

    And the opposite (IMHO):
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150522748559&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
The gold book "Uomini e Auto d'Oro (Great men and Great Cars)" for sale on ebay... buy it now for $15000. (!!!)
How many Ferrari in Cameras IS that??

If you are referring to this book i would note it as "nice" but not an "essential". Not worth the high amounts some booktraders are asking for this book. I paid appr. $35,- for it 2 years back... Can make some pictures of content tomorrow if you want...

    Hi Jack,

Here are some pictures of the content of the book. The reason i find it "nice" and not an "essential" is related to some mistakes in the book. As example i have used the tech-specs of my Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé. It says it has a beam axle and leaf springs while the car has independent suspension on the back . Just one of the few mistakes in the book...

    Best,

    Maarten

Has anyone purchased books from Marcus Nilles of V12 Books in Germany? I am thinking of buying some books from him. Also, is it customary to request the 7% VAT be deducted for books (or any other items) coming to the US, when the VAT is included in the price?

    Thanks.

    Jack.

    Jack,

Yes, I have and highly recommend him. Everything has been exactly as described and beautifully packaged. I can't answer about the VAT, I'm afraid.

Incidentally, you can pay via PayPal. He doesn't take credit cards directly.

I think it is VAT free, but German tax law is difficult. Just have a look here for the paragraph in question and then it continous with § 6 - Have fun.

    Hi Jack,

Like my friend Jonathan already replied, I too can highly recommend this seller. Very accurate descriptions of the condition of his items and perfect packaging. Don´t know about the VAT question either though, it might be best just to ask Markus directly I guess.

    Ciao,

Thank for the comments. I have just ordered three books from Marcus. His prices are much more reasonable than many I have seen advertised (even including VAT!)

How much is he wanting to charge you for postage? He wants me to pay EUR 40 to have one very small item shipped via DHL express, which is about four times what regular postage would be. Also, given my previous experiences with DHL, I never want to have anything to do with them again.
