Agree, but you forgot the USA in your list and many more countries. And I haven't voted for a very long time, so maybe I'm not an idiot. Regarding new books there is this one (sorry, not Ferrari) : https://www.rallyandracing.com/fr/de-tomaso-racing-blue-blood?srsltid=AfmBOoq061yWqpAILIb_KudRX0ZP4532r6yqtK2sJ1o9McuPdwITq01L
I’ve sent a couple of messages to Auto Books Aero Books to express my concern over the terrible fires in their area, and to check on the status of the “Ferrari & Maranello” books as they said they expected to receive delivery within two weeks of when I first contacted them. Uncharacteristically they haven’t replied so I fear they may somehow be involved in the fires that have ravaged Los Angeles County. I sincerely hope not. Aside from the humanitarian aspects it is one of the few remaining specialty bookshops in the country.
When I was going to school in LA I used to frequent that store every week. Along with Pasteiner’s in Detroit they are the only places left in the US to get car books.
The City of Burbank's web site indicates no evacuations as of January 10. I called the bookstore and got their normal voicemail message. I have had great dealings with these people and hope they are safe.
Pasteiner's does a great Cars and Coffee every Saturday, 8ish to 10am. If you're in town, don't miss. George
I read three sample pages of this book and was shocked at the poor, esoteric, lofty style of writing. One may argue that three pages don't give a proper impression, but I won't take any risks and won't order the book although it clearly shows nice photography. No match to Ken Gross's nice book on the restoration of 275 GTB #08011 for Assouline. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dear all, If any of you have bought books by Publisher Assouline, could you please share your thoughts and views? I have a preliminary opinion but need to visit one of their Paris shops during Retromobile week before I confirm it or amend it and share it. Thanks in advance.
I bought the massive Roy Lichtenstein Art Book (pop art) and paid roughly 1'200 Swissies for it. Marcel Massini
Thank you and did you feel it was worth it in terms of the text? I know the paper and photo quality are great but to me books are about text quality, new research. Any idiot can take fantabulous photos nowadays but quality text...not so much.
Collections of overpriced pretty pictures for a reinforced coffee table, that’s Assouline. Lot’s of show, very little go!
I did a review on the 275 GTB book by Ken Gross for Assouline: https://www.instagram.com/p/C6axwMmCjRJ/?img_index=5&igsh=b2dwNWJydzV4a25v And I have the "Monte Carlo" book by Assouline, which is a fine book if you like the principality and all the fine people, boots, cars, and restaurants there. Makes you dream on rainy sundays
Marcel, Buchpilot and Bloomberg, thank you for your assessments and review. I will skip the Assouline shop visit; coffee table books for nouveau riche who will never read them. The type of shallow people who are all about appearance and might not have a single other book in their home...If I see an error in a book I have bought I correct it with a ball point pen; for me a book is historical record for learning, documenting history or whatever the topic is, not a luxury bauble.
