What car # will that be?
I was also going to order the stripe until I saw this view from the back. The stripe goes down the length of the rear bumper...It looks too weird in my opinion..Decided to go with the carbon fiber roof instead... I hate to post up render's but here's some official pictures of the C8 with the carbon fiber side + front extension skirts, fender hash decals, and the high rear wing offered on the configurator in case anyone wants more of a real world idea. Its amusing how the live-in-the-field pics are all much more flattering to the C8 than all the official GM pics/renders. For example, the renders above look horrible.
Well, I finally saw the car up close and personal. First a disclaimer: The two gentlemen responsible for the way the exterior looks are two of my closest friends. If I like the car, i'll be accused of favoritism If I'm critical of the design, it's like telling someone their child is ugly. So with that out of the way I can say with no hesitation whatsoever it is a home-run out of the park. Period. I didn't know what to think from the plethora of online photos. The design is complex. It looks like a Corvette. Check. It looks like a ME car proportions. Check. The car has an aggressive stance, and has 'presence'. Check. The Acura NSX & the Audi R8 should just pack it up and go home, IMHO. I believe the car will be a major success. It's a great shot in the arm for the 'home team.' And.........there is more to follow. But at this price point, a major victory. There's a showing in Orange County this week I'm going to. I put down a deposit for a Convertible but I may get a coupe once I see the final details of the vert and pricing. I can't help but say that the car is just ruined by that wing -- because it is. The white one just looks so much better. Also I'll replace those side scoops with aftermarket CF ones. I can't stand "carbon flash" -- looks like cheap metal flake to me.
What is that white called? I don't like white sports cars, but that white on that car is awesome. And so cool with no spoiler. I might get that instead of black!
Yes I saw that. There's an extra charge for that and I'm not sure its any better. There's a slate gray which I assume is painted but no metal flake. Its one of the things I'm going to check out this week. Most likely I'm going for silver or a gray color. Everyone is going for red and yellow and white. The new blue will be popular but its not available yet. I do think GM hit a home run here as long as they don't fall apart.
Much better without the wing. Wing is horrific. The side intakes seem to be very color dependent as to if they work or not. I like the black on the red but do not like the black on the white. Just my $.02 But yeah I think GM hit a home run on this now that we are seeing good pics and not those horrific renders and publicity pics. I actually think its better looking than what Ferrari and MacLaren are making these days. But the Huracan still wins for me.
John whats with the really bad publicity pics/renders ? The car is so much better looking in the wild than in those pics. They are so heavily rendered its not flattering to the car.
IMO, these renders are done by GM's marketing department, not the design department. You know.. visual morons.
I agree 100%. The battles that take place regarding those 'Press Shots' are the stuff of legends. The crappy shots Ferrari always seem to release just confirm that it is indeed a universal issue. The Corvette looks so much better up close and personal.
As a Chief Designer, one of the responsibilities was to make sure the advertising/PR shots flattered the design. What a joke that was. The agencies and the corporate PR staff always seemed to have their own ideas. I point to Ferrari as an additional example of just how wrong the whole process can go. Trying to tell anything to that crowd was a fools errand most of the time. If I was going to be held responsible, then let me have some control over the process.
