The new water pipes came in, sending them to Brightworks for Nickel Flashing. They do a great job duplicating original pipes. Hi All, My apologies for not properly introducing myself after all these years of lurking! My name is John ('Gianni') Cuccio, and that is my father John D Cuccio behind the wheel of (I think) Ralph Stein's 275 GTB. RS wrote the wonderful book 'The Great Cars', and the pict was taken in Mr. Stein's driveway for a short article in the book. This may have been covered at sometime on this site, but the story goes that after carefully studying this car for hours, RS and my dad concluded that it was off symmetrically from one side to the other. Thank you MM for all your most informative posts! AllTwelve
In case this might help you to further indentify, to my knowledge only 07887, 07899 and 08033 were 275 GTB's with a longnose, alloy body and Campagnola wheels. Best regards Kevin Blommaert
Thanks for posting John. Your father had a long history with Luigi Chinetti, care to share any stories?
07899 is a steel bodied car, not alloy, despite the elongated rain gutter. I personally checked this car completely with a magnet everywhere. It is being completely restored right now and repainted from yellow to metallic silvergrey. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
But separately it is interesting that there are at least 2 steel bodied Long Nose 275 GTBs with elongated rain gutter. I take it there are no seams on 07899?
Perhaps 07809 with extended rain gutter needs inspecting also to see if it really is an alloy bodied car. Looks like steel rust on the nose area and next to bonnet/hood near RHS headlight? Image Unavailable, Please Login Pic from post here.
Refreshed my memory on 07809 now. I've seen a pic of it with the roof seams proving it to be an alloy car. However, from Mr Glickenhaus's post here, it may well have had a steel nose clip added due to a previous accident, explaining the steel rust present on it in the pics above. AFAIK 07809 has always been a long nose car, contrary to what Mr Glickenhaus stated in his 2004 post.
07809 is an alloy car for sure and has the seams. See also that fabulous color photo on page 359 of Tony Adriaensens' excellent book "Ten Days in Sicily". Taken when original owner Luciano Conti and co-driver Vittorio Venturi raced it at the 8 May 1966 Targa Florio, entered by Scuderia Nettuno. 07809 was last seen in a warehouse in Indianapolis but still in the same ownership since 43 years.
