Steve: The CV Joint driveshafts also have a bearing in the middle of the shaft, as do the Torque-tube shafts

Thanks, Dyke. Are the CV Joint (Interim) driveshafts as reliable as the Torque Tube shafts?

Steve: Yes, the GTB/C's use CV Jointed shafts. Actually all three systems are reliable when aligned correctly. The key to keeping the "solid coupling" cars from vibrating is to make sure the engine and transaxle mounts are very secure and tight. It is the engine and transaxle moving around that causes the mis-alignment that resulted in the vibrations. CV Joints allow for this movement. The Torque-tube eliminates all the movement between the engine and the transaxle, as they then move as one unit. I developed a laser tool to align the engine and transaxle (by shimming the mounts) to make sure they are perfectly in-line before installing the driveshafts and then there are no problems with either system.

Thanks, Dyke. Unfortunately not many people have your 275 experience, knowledge and expertise. In the real world is it still generally a problem in 2019 for Ferrari mechanics/specialists to keep the engine and transaxle in line on the early "solid coupling" Short Nose 275 GTBs and indeed all the 275 GTS cars?

In Maranello, May 2014, I was lucky enough to see châssis 10621, famously owned by Steve McQueen, in its final tests before being sold at auction in August!

You would think that Classiche would fit the correct knock-offs?

Maybe not the show wheels but instead some replacement used for the test drive?
In the past even the new production cars didn't go out for the test drive on their 'delivery' wheels.

Hmmmm, that paint scheme is an acquired taste. Is it some sort of TdF homage?
