David that squirrel has good taste! I like the sharper look of the 2 cam grill treatment here better than the more rounded corners of the 4 cam look. CH
Please tell me the entire car is NOT real. It looks like a bad replica so I am not that upset. If it were real.....
It is real, it had even a t-top. The next pictures taken by me 10 years at pebble Beach Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
We cannot have the Lusso thread take over the 275 GTB thread. Even though, I really do love the Lusso. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Shows beautful detail of the tail and trunk hinges. Those trunk hinges are one of the most beatuful details on any Ferrari IMO.
In that case I'd rather see it be corrected. As the temporary custodians of these pieces of history, it's our duty to faithfully restore/preserve as original.
I am not sure that these two cars are the same. I saw the t-top customised car in the UK in the 70s (and I'm desperately searching for the photos!). It had US number plates and was at Maranello Concessionaires' service centre, My recollection was that it was a bit rough! The car in your pictures looks like #9657, a Speciale built for Omar Sharif. This car had an increased number of slots on the sail panels, an external fuel filler cap and, IIRC, larger, more vertical slots on the front wings. Unfortunately, I cant see these in the front view photo and I don't have access to relevant reference books at the moment.
I have found one transparency of #9657 which is dated July 81 and is clearly at the UK FOC annual concours, rather than Maranello's. This is a front view and the front fins are clearly visible, I will keep searching for further information and will post the pics when I have more.
FYI 09657 was NOT built or owned by Omar Sharif. It also is NOT a "Speciale", it was a standard and stock 4-cam. This nonsense can be found on certain websites and is completely untrue. 09657 was sold new 11 March 1967 through official dealer Motor S.p.A. di Carla Allegretti e C. in Rome to the first private owner Bernardo Valenzi, born in Rome on the 22nd May 1920, resident at Corsa Le Fosse 70 at Segni (Rome), Italy, the price he paid was Italian Lire 6'500'000. I have the paperwork for all this. Omar Sharif never owned this 4-cam. Last known owner of this car is a person in Minnesota/USA (2013). Marcel Massini
I obviously defer to your expertise Marcel. On rereading my notes it seems that I was confused and I did pick up the Omar Sharif reference from somewhere on the web. I am curious, however, whether it is the customised car brought back to near (?) original or in fact a separate telaio? John
09657: This placard was seen on 09657 in August 2004 at Pebble Beach when the car was offered by Blackhawk Collection of Danville. Of course, the description is totally wrong. Pure Fantasy. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
