some quick colour renditions... as expected the darker colours and the dark grey look best to me. and my 2 cents on the car itself... some great angles - especiallly the rear 3/4 view. The side view looks really nice. Liking the front facia, but the headlights dont really "fit" the car... the 458 yes, but the FF, no. Was hoping for better, but these first over-photoshopped shots arent usually the best rendition of the car. Wait to see one in the flesh/aluminum. Or at least some unretouched real-life shots. http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/6466/94781298.jpg here it looks great. Official pictures, especially initial ones are always rubbish at Ferrari.
ps: the term concept is not referring to a pre production model, but to a new concept of a car. Somehow there is a confusion around the web about this. Its strange somehow that they chose to make a vide in the dark like they admit the car its ugly.
I've taken my strong position, feel free to ignore it. Go away and come back when you can add something useful to the conversation. I only continued because bdelp seems hell bent on almost religous defense of what quite frankly is a pup of a design. Ask 100, people 80 will say it hideous for a Ferrari. At least it will give Jeremy Clarkson some great comedy for the future programme.
Sure because his opinion is the opinion and is foremost built on actual facts and reason I quite like on the outside, the inside is just Italia meets California. Don't quite like that.
... Agreed it may only be a concept. Thats what concept cars are for but there is no doubting that concept drawing was beautiful to look at, the FF seems somehow just wrongly proportioned, as others have pointed out the factory pictures and colours don't help its case either. Looking at it this morning (after sobering up!) I still don't like it but can at least appreciate and understand the dilemma Ferrari faces. How does one increase profits without going more mainstream? As people have indicated there are only so many caps, t-shirts and theme parks one brand can sustain. Styling is obviously a subjective thing, chalk and cheese. Some people will no doubt like the new 612, love it even but I just wonder what the rammifications will be of this will be on people's perception of the brand. I honestly think they should have ditched the hatchback bit of the design and that alone has already been illustrated on pics in this thread and makes it look a lot better, still not lovable but better. All said and done I hope they are successful for the sake of the company.
360trev hits the mark -- Ferrari is seeking to shift/expand its brand profile. I personally believe this is risky and will dilute the brand. But admittedly since Porsche came out with its Cayenne, the brand has not suffered. Of all companies in the auto biz, F knows how to manage brand and image, so this will probably be an excellent step for them. As for styling, it is too busy. The departure of Pininfarina begins to show IMO. The contrast with the elegance of the Scaglietti will grow with time, for, whatever your like/dislike quotient, the FF is not elegant. The 458 was a styling tour de force; absolutely beautiful. And the FF is, well, a big Cali.
Porsche has never made more money thanks to Cayenne and Panamera, yet their 911's are still considered by some to be the best sports cars around and they sell very well, thank you. Pininfarina did do the styling, and as with most Pininfarina designs you only really appreciate the details and the surfacing of the car in person and will grow on you, like the 612 did. The blue car in the video posted here really shows off the subtleties of the surfaces: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=140229116&postcount=111 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I stand corrected on the Pininfarina styling...thought earlier comments said it was done inhouse. Not a fan, at this stage, though.
As i said before, everyone hated the California and the 458 when the first design pics where revealed. Those cars went on to be pretty successful. Once more is seen about this car I think it'll do the same.
sorry, can't warm up to the idea of buying a 'hatchback' Ferrari. Ferrari's are supposed to be production cars simulating a roadgoing experience of race/F1 machinery. not to mention thrill the soul. FF=Ferrari Failure
They'll probably do a coupe, and everyone will be happy, including the rear seat passengers: Image Unavailable, Please Login
