If you've ever seen pics of the Flavster on the beach or on a yacht wearing a speedo, you already know he HAS NO SHAME!!!!
This whole thing is stupid. The crash was a simple violation of the "team orders" rule, nothing more. It was far less dangerous and far less cheating then Schumacher (or Senna, etc.) running into the competition. The penalty should be whatever the penalty was last time someone utilized team orders. Let's see, when was the last time Barrichello was penalized for letting Schumacher by?
That is absurd. Letting someone pass does NOT contribute to the danger to other drivers, crews, and safety workers like crashing does. It is unforgivable and they should take these guys out and hang them at the start finish line for the next race as an example for the other teams, and use a skull and crossbones flag for anyone else cheating.....report to the pits for summary execution. Just kidding.
I didn't say it was less dangerous then letting someone pass, I said it was "cheating" just like letting someone pass (team orders) and less dangerous then driving into another car on purpose. I will gladly report to the pits to take Piquet's job of crashing F1 cars, whether on purpose or not.
Senna and MS both won championships by deliberately crashing and received NO penalty at all. How you all forget ... this is simply the first case that has been caught out. Pete
...hmmm, I wonder if the 'laughing stock' bit was largely due to the malevolent influence of a certain Italian lothario with no sense of shame or integrity? I think in light of the recent developments, Nelson deserves the benefit of the doubt. I hope one of the new teams gives him a second chance at an F1 career, I think he deserves at least that.
F1 needs to take a page from Nascar in so many ways. Cutting off heads for cheating is out of bounds. Everyone looses. There has to be a clause to keep all this dirt from public scrutiny. Administered by people who care about more than the money and ego trips. The evidence against Flabbio must have been substantial. What a moron to say in so many words; "yes I told him to rob the bank, and he did, but dont blame me as it was his final decision". How do pinheads like this amass such fortunes ?
I didn't read through every post on this thread so my apologies if this was already suggested. I put it elsewhere as well. What if ... Flav and Pat resigned because they have a deal with Sir Richard? Possibility? The Manor F1 team is going to be the Virgin F1 team. Haven't heard any details on who is going to actually run the team. Could it be??
I think that the FIA should ban Renault, Briatore and Symonds from all motorsport competition , forever !!!!!
That is an absurdly cavalier attitude towards safety. Ask the family of Ayrton Senna what can happen when an F1 car hits a wall. Ask the family of the course marshall killed in Australia when he was hit by Villeneuve's BAR, what can happen. Ask Alex Zanardi what can happen to a car stopped in the middle of the track. Whether or not Piquet Jr. accepted his own risk associated with crashing his car is beside the point. He was wrong to deliberately put others at risk of being maimed or killed for the sake of points. Frankly, your trying to minimize it is pathetic.
Give me a break. I guess you drive a Volvo at 20mph everywhere. Please keep this in perspective. Both Alex's and Ayrton's accidents were at very high speed ... motorsport accidents happen every weekend and most of them involve only damage to the car. No wonder F1 is sh!tting itself if we have so called fans that have this attitude. You know it's safer if you never get out of bed ... or leave the house. Please becareful, life IS dangerous and invigorating if you actually LIVE it. Pete
Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll stay inside. Ever hear of Dale Earnhardt? Was that a high impact crash? Hardly!! **** CAN happen and it doesn't have to be at high speed. I could care less if Piquet kills himself, but the attitude that it's fine to deliberately put others at unncessary risk is what will justify the mammoth penalty that Renault will receive. You're confusing what would happen with what could happen. Yes, obviously it is VERY unlikely something very bad WOULD happen. I agree. But just as obviously, the drivers all know what could happen when they get in the car, that doesn't mean they want to deliberately increase the odds of it happening.
Touche", the stench of Max once again! Unfortunately Flavio played right into his hands and gave F1 yet another black eye! If ALL these clowns keep it up the knockout will soon follow. I'm not sure how much credibility the sport has anymore, but I suspect most think not much!
A very sad affair indeed, I am curious to understand how it was orchestrated, the radio transmissions look normal, and although such a "strategy" may have been discussed prior to the race, the timing would have been critical. Maybe a code word that meant crash now and jeopardise your life and others.
If you read Piquet's statement, which Renault will not contest, it was decided before the race that he would crash on the 14th lap in that particular corner because there were no cranes or openings in the wall there to get rid of the wreck so that a safety car was guaranteed to come out. Piquet kept asking on the radio what lap it was, which he stated he would not normally do. When he knew he was on the 14th lap, he crashed as agreed. Maybe Briatore telling him to "push" was the code word.
Flav desperate to keep Renault in F1 PK desperate to stay in F1 Alonso desperate to win. Flav knew the risks, he lived by the sword now he must die by it. There is no honour in it at all they have no right to be in F1, and thats the sorry part. And thats goes for Mosley.
All of this garbage only to realize they were one race away from winning honourably. Ironic and pathetic.
