Well, the first Friday Free Practise Session has just been completed. Ferrari took advantage of the dry period at the beginning of the session to put in some times that blow everyone else away so far. Massa, Alonso, Fisichella, Coulthard, Montoya, Raikkonen and Webber have yet to record any times.

Montoya lost it on his fourth lap, spinning off in the wet at 150mph when approaching the Imola chicane, sliding into the gravel trap, almost flipping and crashing into the tyre barrier. He was uninjured.

I read (in my fav mag again), that they do let Davidson run with almost empty tanks for kicks. Nevertheless he is highly respected, but since Glock's debut they both rank now equally high among the 3rd pilots.

I guess because there are only certain times they can have the GP in the US and Canada. Or perhaps in France. Who knows....

Michael Schumacher just broke the Magny-Cours lap record by 0.022 seconds, which was held by his brother in 2003, with only 6 seconds of the practise session to go! That's Schumacher precision for you! :D

I guess we'll see about that tomorrow.

As expected Michelin did an immense effort to look good on home turf. So did Renault.

Interesting camera split with Briatore's reaction to MS coming in 2nd. How times change: He used to cheer for him back in the Benetton days. Oh well.

What the hell happened to Rubens? Interesting to see whether he can improve. One would hope so.

At any rate, I think chances are good for a real race to take place.

DC is THIRD.................................Did he get a new girlfriend ??????????

Should be a good race ! I think Renault is one a low fuel level so they could be on pole in France.

Well I'm back from a party.... tried to watch the results live on a laptop using wireless but it kept cutting out. Oh well. :(

I can't believe the times in the 1:13's! Well over a second quicker than last year's record lap (which was 1:14.966, set by Ralf Schumacher in the second Saturday Practise Session).

I'm also very impressed by David Coulthard's form; I hope this is the beginning of a comeback.

What happened to Barrichello? Raikkonen and Sato weren't so flash either.

Rubens is 2 stopping most likely. Can the McLarens hold their positions? Can Gene move through the field? Can Alonso hold off MS? Can JPM give MS hell?

Got a feeling it's going to be an interesting race tomorrow!

You might be right about the fuel levels. After all they wanted to shine here.
However it might be a real advantage due to the Michelins which are here on their home track. So I wonder where the Ferrari really is at:

Michael probably made it look better than it is and Rubens made it look worse.

Mc Laren brought the new car which seemed to be a big improvement. The question is, will the engine hold? And if it does are we going to see at least some pressure on Michael from the silver cars? Would be nice.

My predictions MS running on a 3 stop plan with a little more fuel than the other runners. rubens is heavy and on a 2 stop plan with a long first stint then running about the same fuel loads as the 3 stoppers

    MS 1st
    RB 2nd
    Trulli 3rd

    ;)

I think this is the usual MS strategy at work: stay behind Alonso until the Renault pits, do a couple of banzai laps, and then pit and come out in the lead. Don't you think?

P.S. I hadn't heard: what's the chance of rain at race time?

I'm a bit worried about Rubens. When you're tenth a lot of bad stuff can happen in the breaking zone to the hairpin.

Apparently Rubens had some problems with his car, which prevented him from going out during pre-qualifying. That in turn hurt his performance in qualifying, according to Ferrari. But I'm guessing he'll still be on a two-stop strategy.
