Good day Adam, I have some questions, What is the paint stripper you used? any brand name or photo of the can? You said you used power washer. Is it the water jet? Did you paint the timing belt cover and air boxes with powder coating? Can you tell me little about bowder coating? I have spider 1993 yellow and my engine looks bad looking.I want to drop the engine and do exactely what you did. You did great job and to me more beautiful that mozart paintings. Thanks
Hi Hosam, nice to read that you like the red and black changes 'in the back : ... On page 9 you can see how I made the interior of enginebay almost the same as Adam. Sandblasted all paint off, did not powdercoat the parts but painted/spayed with red an then clear coating twice ...
Hi Melvok, Normal paint wont fry from compartment heat. What about the engine red coating. Is there any special paint to stand hot engine. I am gathering all these information before i drop the engine. Yes i saw your car.I am following every details in Adam thread. Thanks again.
I hate being one of 'those guys', but should the bolts on the back of the top camshaft end cap not be studs and nuts? I'm not sure I've seen a picture of it in a later state so you might have addressed this already. Love the effort you've put into this thread, thanks very much for sharing it with us.
You could also argue about the lack of crinckle paint and go on .... Nothing wrong with these pimp chrome_nuts imo ... there was never a leak ... Try and do it better ... (yourself) ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Word of advice. These cars are getting valuable and will move significantly in the near future. Collectors are going to want the cars to be stock. Be mindful that these cosmetic changes will devalue the car. While it is not that costly to revert, it will shake the confidence of buyers in the future if they see any modifications and they will move onto cars that have not been modified first. At a bare minimum modifications will devalue the car slightly more than the cost of the reversion.
I love these DIY posts. So well written and documented. Gives us all inspiration to tackle smaller jobs and work our way up. GREAT job.
Mel those shiny and chrome fins valve covers and chrome accorn nuts are so nice I would be very tempted to do it on my car if I wasn't on the purist side. If only Ferrari had done it this way.
Claude ... THEY HAVE done that ! Have a close look at the nuts of delivery, they were capped also, maybe not chrome but alloy ... but they were there OEM ! Have a good LOOK ! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What injectors did Adam use on his 512tr? If you look at the ones removed they had black plastic, but if you look at the ones that were installed, they were yellow plastic. Anyone know if there are better injectors now available for the 512tr? Better atomization? Hopefully Adam can chime in.
silvergts....I see that you do actually respond to other threads.... Can you please chime in on the injectors you put in your 512tr?
I don't remember what injectors they were. It's been a while. It's a Bosch low impedance injector i believe. They work better in my opinion and atomize the fuel. I had my original injectors bench tested by a local shop here. My car will be going through majors again not from driving but lack of driving. Everything will be going back to OEM including acorn nuts. Only thing that won't be OEM is the Dave Helms Fuse Panel upgrade.
Thanks Adam. I imagine that injectors have improved since 1990 but I haven't taken the time to study them. Thanks again
Pitty Adam, you were my Idol ! .... so now my car is the (l)only one in this version now ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Now is this unique version only available (also for sale) in The Netherlands ! Found something on (your ?) injectors ..... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Melvok. I am going to have the majors done sometime in 2015 and put everything back to OEM including the wrinkle finish gray. All mods except the fuse panel were cosmetic. The ceramic coating on the headers will stay on as that does help keep heat in place. I think the injectors were 19lb high impedance injectors not low. Can't believe it's been a little over 7 years since this post was originally made. I put very little miles on the car since then. I think less than 2K...geesh!
those injectors always getting dirty inside because of the chemical stuff in the fuel. and the longer without use the more dirty.
