Lets try not to get off on too many tangent conversations. Everyone just post your experiences and pictures from the next week here. I leave tomorrow afternoon, so my first entry probably won't be until after CI and the FerrariChat.com dinner Friday.
Do you know what kind of a pig sty this thread will be after three or four separate posts from people describing their experiences, first hand...? As someone else suggested, how about making a new, temporary forum called Monterey and let all of us just go buck wild in there...
Thanks Rob! I was worried pictures would be scattered from showroom to the cali board to EVERYWHERE! -jt
I'll leave the field to the real photogs, but these get us started. Wish I could post the sound and smell of the cars as they drove by ...
AWESOME I don't think I have ever felt this pathetic and left out since I was the last pick for kick-ball in first grade. Sitting here in this stupid east coast office w/ the remains of two hurricanes about to give me 9" of rain over the next 4 days. . . Big pout. SO KEEP THE DAMN PICTURES COMING! give us non-attending losers something to live for . . .
........could be worse you could be down here "IN" the two hurricanes. and i wanted to drive the 308 this weekend to!!!!!!
I have arrived. To briefly sum everything up in the light of Office Space... O O O Oh Oh Ohhhhhh..... We're at the Holiday Inn Express until Sunday and then over to whatever the FCA hotel is. No bar at the HI while we wait for Ron, Steph, and Greg, so we went next door to the Embassy bar. I'm sitting here catching up on email, FC, and having a beer. Hotel was only 5 minutes from Monterey airport, trip went fine. I just need to stop the Monterey Ferrari spotting now, but in first 10 minutes... Beautiful 246 GTS outside HI. Young owner, when I asked if it was a 206, he went off for 5 minutes about who Enzo was and why he named it Dino and about why the Ferrari name wasn't on it. I shook my head respectively like I had never heard it before. Walk next door had 360 Coupe and 348 Spyder go by on Del Monte. In the parking lot all kinds of things, but first to catch my eye was this 250 GT. YES! A 250 GT! Other pics include our view from the Holiday Inn Express and that Ferrari transporter looks a lot like Chris Parrs, but I'm sure there are dozens out there like that. Last pic is me in my current state enjoying a beer, relaxation, and the sound of fine machinery driving by Del Monte behind me.
I had hoped to be the first to post some pics on this thread, but that damn whippersnapper beat me to it. First one is a pic of the DrTax command center trying to get the hell of out Dodge. Second pic is of my in-laws recent 50th wedding anniversary looking at a pic taken when they got married. It doesn't have any relevance to any of this, but it is a cool pic regardless. All I gotta say has been summed up by that great albino blues player from deep in the swamps of Louisiana -- Mr. Johnny Winter -- ROCK 'N ROLL! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rob's photos do a good job conveying the laughably "special" cars one finds driving down the street, parked in front of restaurants, etc. - cars you'd just never, ever see. GREAT 50th anniv pic. Here's yet another Italian car, ho hum :
great pictures, looking forward to more if any of you guys see Rick Intile from putnam leasing do tell him Utkarsh said hi
The best is my footage of the cars arriving... except for the even better footage of them starting up and departing... especially since I ended up arriving too late to see the Ferraris arrive because it took forever to figure out where to park... Carmel's roads aren't exactly laid out in an obvious manner. Anyway, here's some pics:
and a few more... One note: the only car that didn't get away from Carmel cleanly... was a Ferrari... see if you can spot the fluid leak. CA Highway Patrol forgot to show up to escort them out... so, a bunch of the cars got started and then had to sit and sit and wait...including said Ferrari... don't know if that contributed to the failure.

Fooking American Airlines, I was supposed to fly out last night but Fooking AA had TWO planes break then they cancelled my flight to Dallas & expected me to get in line behind 200 people & arrive in CA around 3 am. So I just came home. Hope to be out there enxt week for the track event Please take a lot of photos of my silver 512TR at the Concorso. Have fun
Yoshiho Matsuda's 1963 250 GTO / 64 Scaglietti Berlinetta How much? Big number! I think I've got some good footage of him pulling up at one point and not being allowed through... being re-directed away... he tears up the side street in an angry fit of acceleration. He later came through and got in line... don't know if he went and got proper credentials, or what. (I was too far away to see what happened, exactly.)
