The interior is SUV or truck-like, in a sort of Nissan-way ... weirdo.
The outside is really neat. I like it. A lot.

I live it its a small step over the 996 but the interior looks great and the front looks awsome the wheels on the red Carrera S are nice also.

The engine was bumped up on the base model to 325hp (from 320 lol) and the Carrera S will be produced with a 3.8l 355hp (?) engine. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The interior is downright awful and I would not buy the car as a result.

Too bad.....as the exterior is fabulous !!

What the **** are you talking about? Its a 911, not a Cayenne. It looks nothing like the Cayenne. Please remove your head from your ass.

Yeah, I like the front a lot, but not the back as much. I do like the quad tail pipes, though. The steering wheel is cool. Also, the clock thing in the interior is part of an option package.
Edit: Yes, the S will have 355 BHP and will be released at the same time as the Carrera, supposedly the first time two 911s will be released at the same time.

The newer Porsches really need the back wing that they put on TT. I never liked wings on the old-style 911s. But the newer ones need the wing to hide the humpback.

This car is growing on me. I was the first to bash the 996 because of its "bar of soap" shape. That is of course, until I drove one. A friend of mine recently purchased an '02 C2 Targa. What a nice car to drive! I had to put my foot in my mouth (I'm a die-hard air-cooled 911 fan). Now that I respect the 996 a lot more, and this car looks much better, I'm sure I'll love it in the flesh.

Jon, with all due respect, how in the world could anyone think this looks like a Cayenne? Reminds me of people on the street who make comments about how my 360 or 355 looks like a Corvette, kind of silly and a stretch to say the least. Everyone has an opinion, it's subjective, obviously.

BTW, I like the car a lot. It reminds me of the 95-98 watercooled 911s.

    Regards, Mike

as the previous owner of two 996s, i think this is a big design improvement. the 993 was exceptional looking, and the 996 "broke" some of that, somehow. this 997 seems to pull more of it back together. not perfect. not 993 level. but better than 996. i don't think the interior is a big problem. again, it's an improvement over the 996, for sure. why every f'ing car doesn't have steering wheel controls is WAY beyond me - it's just so much safer.

    thanks for posting those, dude!

    doody.

Interior - I like the clock placement, but don't like that 90's shifter.

Exterior - You guys can actually tell that anything changed??? :)

I am with you, since the title was about the 997 I knew it was the new model but if I would have run across these pics on my own I wouldn't have looked twice at it as being new. Not bad looking, just not that exciting.

Not bad at all. Shifter is a bit funky, but the car could have been much worse with todays styling trends :)

Hey guys, lighten up, the Cayenne comment was tongue in cheek! :)

Porsche makes excellent cars, but I just wish that they would bring out something more charismatic - that tugs the heart strings.

    Best,

Nice pics. Really like the front treatment, much more 993 esque. Lets hope they don't dilute the design by allowing the boxter to have similar design. I really hope they differentiate the designs between the two.

The wheels on the red car are horrendous. There is a more close up pics on 6speed of that wheel, will try to find it later. It is uugly!

I have to disagree with Jerry about the clock placement. I hate hit. This is not an Infinity, its a 911, what the heck is the clock doing there? To me it ruins the dash design, by portruding out like that.

    Just my .02.

IT sure is better-looking than the 996 but I still prefer the 993.

When you take a car like the 996, its hard to improve. They have been reliable and, with all due respect, pretty little buggers.

On another note, I cant wait for the 997. The back and the shifter are a little funky, but it looks nice. Nice car from those guys over at the Porsche drawing boards.

Now that's what I call a step backwards in exterior design, they had already succesfully left the round headlights , why go back?
