Trouble at Spa-Francorchamps All is not well, again, in the world of Spa-Francorchamps' Belgian grand prix. An argument about money, according to a whisper, threatens to disrupt running of September's race in the green Ardennes. In 2003, Spa lost its spot on the F1 calendar following a dispute about local anti-tobacco advertising. This time, though, it's reportedly the circuit promoter and the surrounding regions at loggerheads. The F1 track winds through the towns of Malmedy and Stavelot -- and, according to an unofficial report, the respective mayors are arguing about their share of the race's ticket admission sales. The parties will meet on 23 February. Source: F1racing.net I'm sure this will get resolved before race day.....I hope. Jim
If those 2 mayors will continue to give the GP a hard time i will personally going to kick their a$$ !!
Spa is the definitive track, and also my favorite. I'll meet with our FChat brothers over there and I'll add a can of Texas Whoop-ass for the mayors. Spa is the best.
Of the tracks we've been to, Spa has to rank # 1 in our book. We got our tickets for this year's race as soon as we got home from last year's race - sure do hope it doesn't get axed. Carol
Disaster if we don't have a Grand Prix there this year. Tracks which IMO make the up backbone of the Formula One championship calendar are: Monaco Silverstone Spa-Francorchamps Monza Suzuka One thing I've been wondering as of late is what would it be like driving a Formula One car around the Macau circuit?
Not to hijack the thread, but I like that question. Another street favourites of mine is Pau in France. Kinda like a mini version of Monaco. I'd think Macau is similar.
In my opinion change is always good. The new tracks in Shanghai and Bahrain are exciting and have state of the art technology. Some new destinations in South America and Asia coud easily replace old istorical tracks. Maybe there could be two GPs held in the USA or in Australia.
Wait a minute! Is this the same guy who is "rich Ferrari history" this, and "Ferrari has it's tradition to uphold" that? I don't know who you are, but you are not the Imperial we all know! ;0) IMHO, Shanghai and Bahrain are what's wrong with F1 today. Dinner plate flat. Boring. Not a "drivers" track. (How much time do I have?) Once again, the accountants are running the show, and that is NEVER good. Nice accomodations for the handfull of filthy rich and the press, however. What more could you ask for?!?!? Why did we come here? A race? Jim ___________________ You never saw a fish on the wall with its mouth shut.
I think you misunderstood me. Tradition is an important aspect of F1. However, when tradition gets in the way of progress then it may be time to adopt change. Also you should remember, to me, Ferrari is F1 and F1 is Ferrari... The F in F1 does not stand for Formula, it stands for Ferrari. F1 = Ferrari 1
