My birthday is February 12, and this year I asked my dad if we could go to Indy for the F1 race for my present, and he liked the idea of it being a family vacation. So he said yeah we'd go. I told him the date and hes known it since February 10th or so. We repeatedly tried to get tickets while I was at his house, but for various reasons, somehow we didn't all this time. He always said "next time," so since that day I've been under the impression that I was going to my first F1 race. Well, its a week away, and we don't have tickets. All of a sudden, he is busy this weekend. So, after much ado I'm not going to Indy. Yes, I'm whining, and I doubt anyone cares, but who else am I to tell?

I have 2, maybe 3 extra tickets, and a cheap room at a Fairfield Inn. All available for sale!

    Sorry......... That's not right

Maybe some of the local guys are getting together and you can see it with them.

As a side note - Life has disappointments...

Some of the best times of my life were times I ended up doing things for myself that my parents didn't do for me when I was younger. You will get there.........

quit your whining and watch it on tv like alot of other kids - tickets were obtainable from the website - learn to accept life's curves and live with it - when you assume something . . . sounds like you assumed that daddy was going to give you a present . . . most kids I know don't tell their parents they want a present . . .

If you complain enough you should make him promise to take you to any GP next year and schedule Monaco :D

This post may have said more than you intended.

Are you more disappointed at missing Indy, or not going with your dad?

I would be appreciative of all the other things my parents give me, oh like a house to live in, food to eat, and the other things they decide to reach into their wallet for, so I can have it. You shouldn't whine man, it makes you sound like a spoiled brat. Instead, you should say "No problem Dad, **** happeneds". Then focus on gathering money for next season and buying a ticket early. Whining doesn't solve anything, instead focus on what YOU can do to better your situation. I don't like to lecture, but I think this advice can help you.

He is giving me $200 instead, which I plan to save for a PS3 to get the F1 Championship Edition and later GT5. I'm disappointed on both accounts of not going with my dad and just not going in general. I don't think I'm a spoiled brat and if it came across like that, then that wasn't my intention. I think I will buy my ticket on my own for next year, but I'm not sure it will be at Indy, it could be even farther away, in which case I would have no ride. Whats that saying? "Good things happen to those who wait." I like that one. I'll get over this very very mild bout of depression after the race is over.

Excellent, the guilt trip worked. Next time shoot for 300. Remember any shortcomings we have are our parents fault. Keep that in mind and you'll go far kid ;) :)

take the 200, grab your back pack, sleeping bag and tent and hitch a ride or get a bus to indy. you can buy a general admission ticket and camp across the street from the track. there's a supermarket up the road where you can eat cheap. be a man, your dad will respect you for it.

Those being critical of the original poster need to lighten up!!!!

How old is this kid? He's obviously a minor. He simply needs to vent, because his dad broke a promise.

He doesn't sound spoiled, he sounds disappointed.

Didn't all of us ask for gifts when we were kids?

Some on this board are way too elitist, IMO. Maybe some of you have plenty cash to travel to Europe and all over the USA to watch races, but some out there don't have a pot to pi** in, but they still have a passion for racing.

    Jeez.....

Right spot on. I'm 15 by the way. I don't have the $200 yet either. I have no idea when I will get it.

Seriously, 15 years old, dad promises an awesome trip, breaks that promise and the kid (who again, is 15) is not supposed to be upset? What were you all like when you were 15? I think he's taking much better than most kids I know (and I'm a special ed teacher). Parental attitudes like those in this thread keep my classroom full. I hope you all haven't reproduced yet.
