http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-ohiostate-usc26,0,5109597.story Let the debate begin, err continue.
Debate? Pretty sure USCw cheats and OSU plays teams from pop warner leagues. No debate. SEC > * OSU didn't even win a championship last decade (Miami won 2 in a row).
If you seriously think nobody in the SEC cheats then you are a fool. There are those that cheat, and there are those that get caught, and Cam Newton is in the exact same boat as Reggie Bush, and if you don't think so, you're crazy. And I am not on ANY school or conference bandwagon, they ALL cheat, don't kid yourself.
I'm pretty sure USC has more than one national championship. How many does Auburn, LSU and Alabama combined have all-time? Probably not as many as USC.
That would be 19 combined USC has about 11 . But of course a lot of these were in leather helmet days, the SEC has 5 out of the last 6 and 6 of the last 8 and in 04 ,which didn't USC have to vacate thanks to Reggie Bush?, Auburn was the true National Champion but the media needed their matchup of USC vs Bob Stoops and the two time losers from Norman. And the SEC is poised to make it 6 straight years with a LSU Championship this year. The National Championship will rotate between LSU, Florida and Alabama with one thrown in for Auburn every now and then
19 FOOTBALL National Championships? Last I heard Alabama had two, Auburn has one (or two), I don't think LSU has 15. And yes, I could be wrong on this. And if you want to count ALL National Championships, I really doubt they beat USC when you count all of USC's baseball championships. I know LSU has a few - I photographed them, but they don't come close to USC, who owned the 60's and 70's, IIRC. And, of course it figures you would have to throw in something that doesn't count like your bad dream of a 'media matchup' that didn't favor YOU. It doesn't matter, folks whine and cry like babies every year when THEY don't get the matchup THEY want. If not you then someone else.
USC has more national championships in college sports than any university in the country--by far. They are the "winningest" D1 college athletics program bar none. Add Track, Volleyball, Baseball, Swimming, Golf, Water Polo, Women's Basket ball, and the others--yes, even a couple in Ice Hockey in the late 30/40's--to Football and its not even close. BTW: They had a number of Football Championships in the 60's and 70's, too--not exactly "leather helmet time"... One can argue plenty about any major program--like how Alambam somehow shared the Championship in 77/78 with USC after USC beat them....(voter bias?) and certainly about 2004 and Bush--but it seems they won the game from my memory. But, if you wish to do so, I'd suggest it quite suspect that Auburn was even awarded a place in the BCS Championship Bowl this year. No matter, no LSU doesn't have 15 football championships--if memory serves me, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan and Oklahoma have the most--and Notre Dame and USC have the highest number of Heisman winners.
He, (and I) are here now. We don't get much worse than we were last season, so any Miami fans that are standing up these days are true (if atypical) Miami fans. And yes, Ohio State and USC had the best decade as individual teams. The SEC had the best decade ever as a conference (not counting the leather helmet glory days of the Ivy League). My vote would be for USC to be the best team of the decade since Ohio State had a few more opportunities to get the national championship and lost them. Obviously I am biased against tOSU for the Fiesta Bowl game against Miami. USC got caught cheating, and I am sure most every major program has similar things going on behind the scenes, so I don't penalize them for that. GO CANES!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!! BT
As I noted, memory suggested Mich was also in that special class--I'd not be surprised if they were shown to have more total football victories but to be fair, they have been playing for at least 100 years or so As for most major bowl wins and most Heismans...my guess remains USC or Notre Dame. But again, its certainly possible that MgoBlue can claims more... As for most National Championships (all sports combined) for a university with a D1 athletic program--USC by a pretty fair margin.
Somebody might want to check their facts. By themselves Alabama has more Football National Championships than USC.
Next time read the following line: "Last I heard Alabama had two, Auburn has one (or two), I don't think LSU has 15". "And yes, I could be wrong on this."
Try 13 for Alabama alone, LSU has 4 and 2 for Auburn. LSU has a half dozen in Baseball and something like 46 or so in all sports but the only ones that matter are Football especially since this is a College FOOTBALL thread. There was no bad dream of a media matchup, it is what happened but you seem to really take offense when OK is called into question, but OK couldn't even win their conference championship in 2003 but they were put in the NCG ahead of USC they did not belong there and they certainly did not deserve a second shot over a undefeated Auburn in 2004. And I was at the LSU / OK game and watched every play I wasn't distracted by taking pictures so trust me it would have been a better game if USC had been there and OK stayed home where they belonged.
Funny - I was not at that game so no, I wasn't distracted by taking pictures - but nice try at taking a shot at me personally (now let's see if you beat on me because I wasn't there - I'm expecting it, but if you do, be prepared to tell us why you were not at the 15 or so Nat'l Championship games I WAS at, and I'd be hard-pressed to believe you attended that many). And I really don't give a **** who plays in the games, they are all the same to me: no matter who is in them, SOMEONE will whine and cry because they were not in them, and SOMEONE will be in one that doesn't 'deserve' to be, but that is not for you or I to determine. I am in Nebraska, and I am not so blinded to think NU SHOULD have been in the Nat'l Championship game in 2002, I made A LOT of money on that game. ANYBODY Miami faced that year would have been blown out. I even made a tidy sum on this years' NU bowl game - that was incredibly easy money for me, those odds were just stupid. So no, I am not a Nebraska or Big-8/Big-12/Big-10 'homey'. I grew out of that phase 30 years ago. Someone also said somewhere they didn't want to take into account championships from 100+ years ago, so that's not a level playing field. There is no 'cut-off' period, count 'em all or don't count any, you cannot draw a line.
Your admission of not caring about who play in the games certainly explains your lack of knowledge of what the current power structure is in college football. Thanks for clarifying that you really don't have anything of substance to add to college football discussions. Also I am more than hard pressed to believe you have been at 15 National Championship Games when you say you weren't at the one for the 03 Championship and there have only been 13 BCS NCGs total so your math skills astound me yet again. Based on your mathematics I have been to more NCGs with a total of 3 and certainly 4 more Super Bowls , now since you don't care about college football other than to support your gambling habit shoooooo troll shoooo
