Please don't ever use "good enough" and engine oils in the same remark. Many of us strongly recommend using Redline brand oils. They're great products and reasonably priced at approx. $11 qt.

There are countless differences in oils, even at the same advertised viscosity different brands fall within the guidelins at different points. This means that 4 different 5w40 oils can have 4 different levels of actual viscosity.

Who used other "cheaper" synthetics and have engine problems or blown up? NONE. You can drive 10k on the same synthetic and not have problems- proven endlessly.

Motor oils are designed to be changed every year or at certain amount of miles. As long as you keep up with your service, most name brand oils (Mobil, Pennzoil, Valvaline, Amsoil, Redline etc) with the right weight will be fine.

Viscosity difference between brands is minor and I am sure most branded oils are within specs. What people should be concerned about is changing dirty oil out and use good practice when checking oil level. For example, I've seem cars with dirt around the dip stick cap area and getting particles into the system.
