Hi Guys.. I just purchased my 95 355GTB last Wednesday and I'm enjoying the car so much. Since, I'm yet familiar with the "usual" metrics of the car, I would appreciate if somebody can asnwer my noob question. Is it normal to have the following temp for water and oil if you are dirving the car real hard or sitting in traffic for a long time ?

    1.] Oil Temp - tad over 210
    2.] Water Temp - Line after 190

    Thanks guys...

    Oil sounds right.
My water never gets above 190 as that is when the fans [should] click on.
Oh, except when I blew a coolant line a few weeks ago!!

The oil and water should be about straight up (12 o'clock) at operating temperature on a 355. If your water is much over this, it is possible you have a radiator fan not coming on.

+1. You should hear the fans come on as soon as the temp is creeping beyond 190.

Thanks guys... I'll definitely look into it this weekend... are the fans located on both sides near the rear side vents ?

Yes, check to ensure they each cycle on/off. They are independant of each other in operation. The left one (driver's side) seems to have the most issues. If one is not working, I would first check the fuses in the passenger foot well, they are known to blow occaisionally. If the fuses are fine, and the left side fan is still not working, it is likely the thermoswitch, mounted near the top of the left radiator (you will need to remove the left rear wheel and fender liner to reach it).

The driver's side fan works for sure because I can hear it when I open my door (while at a stop). The right side, I'm not sure. I have to check.

The temp only goes up when I drive the car real hard (very hi reving drving for 5 -10 mins straight)...

In addition to what the other guys have said.

Make sure that you are running the proper amount of coolant, AND, that the cooling system has had all the air properly bled out of it.

+1 for ernie's suggestions above, plus be sure to check your oil level. Likewise, old oil, a clogged oil filter, and old coolant can diminish the engine's ability to cool.

As can obstructions on the radiators (I once had an entire newspaper blocking one of mine).

Another question.. After some of you guys suggesting to check my fan, I did after a spirited driving.

Is it normal for both fans (left and right ) to not go on at the same time ? When the right fan was on, the left was off. But I can't say that the left fan is broken since it turns on also but not at the same time as the right.

    Is this normal ?
