I have heard that a "typical" 308 burns oil, and it's normal.( 1 qt. every 500-1000 miles?). This does not seem to be the case with mine (1978 308GTS -30,000 miles- no cats)... anyone else hear this, or experience it? I seem to have little to NO oil loss at all. The engine is as clean as the day it was made, as is the rest of the car....and it runs great.
I believe this problem is most associated with the early injected 308s (1980-82), although by now most of them would have had the issue corrected or the engine replaced. My 328 probably burns half a quart every 800 miles or so, very approximately, with compression being strong/even, no smoke, etc. If your 308 burns none, it's doing better than some 2006 cars.
