I have read somewhere that after those two drain plugs are opened to drain the motor oil, you will then need to disconnect the lower hose going to the oil cooler on the right side of your 348. Without this step, 1/2 litre of old oil will not be drained.
    WHERE is this located?
    whats an oil cooler?
Do the fuel filter and oil filter have to be ferrari OEM parts or are there alternative parts? Bosch?

I suggest you read the "oil change" post (from two days ago in the 348/355 forum) again. PAP's answer (complete with great pictures) cannot be bettered. You will see that there is a drain plug below the oil tank and a drain plug on the side of the engine sump. If you look underneath the car you cannot fail to spot these using PAP's photos. Note that the drain is on the oil tank, NOT the oil cooler. An oil cooler is a radiator through which the oil flows in order to cool it and you don't need to go near the oil cooler for an oil change.
IMO it's not worth the risk to try to save a bit of money with non OEM parts for filters on your Ferrari.

I don't know of anyone who disconects hoses for an oil change service on their 348.

It is two plugs - one is a 22mm bolt located at the bottom of the reservoir tank (back right corner of the engine, at the very bottom enderneath the passenger side tail-light). The second one is a 12mm plug that requires a hex/allen key, that is positioned vertically, and you will need to remove the plate along the under belly to access it (no big deal for this, about 4 philips screws).

    Good luck.

    Now you do.

    ;)

Before I replaced the lower cover of my oil tank with the new Hill Engineering piece, I used to pull the big fatty hose. Big ol' wrench. Bigger bucket. Not very clean, but it worked. My old lower cover had stripped threads, and it was always risky/PITA to remove the drain plug. Now, obviously I roll with my buddy Paul Hill's cover 139627: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=198879

(1/2 the price of the OEM Ferrari one)

I assume you are talking about the hose to the oil tank Ricardo? :D:D

Circled red in my pic. :):)

I wouldnt bother with it mate. Whats 500ml of old oil? Bah. ;);)

Also, I would stick to using a genuine Ferrari engine oil filter. :):)

You can go aftermarket fuel filters if you wanted to. I will be when I perform my major service. :):)

But definitely stick with the genuine Ferrari oil filter. I dont trust those "other" filters with my $20,000 Ferrari engine. :D:D

PAP, it looks like your running straight crude oil in your 348....those Aussie Ferrari's must be built tougher than the USA versions.

Lol, looks A LOT worse (darker) in that pic.:eek:

Oil wasnt that bad, only had a 4000 km or so since the last oil change. :D:D

Have around 3000 km on the engine oil now and when I check the level it still looks like golden honey.:eek:
