I want to perform my first oil change on my 348, since im not excatly sure when it was done last time. I also have trackday event comming up.

So whats the procedure on this. Here is my guess. Please CORRECT all my wrongs and add things etc...

With oil warm, and sump cap off:

    1. Drain sump
    2 Drain engine.
3 Remove old filter (remember gasket)
4 Install new filter, oil the new gasket. ( Can you fill it before install...?)
    5. Reinstall both drain plugs and washers.
6 add 11qts of oil to the sump ( is there anywhere else to add the new oil?)

Do I need to do any "priming", or can I start it right up after the new oil is in?

This is how I would do it, so please correct me before I blow anything up (-:

I just changed my engine oil when hot. The forward oil drain flowed well at first, then took a while to dribble dry.

The rear oil sump drained quickly and that was that. Some early 348's have a gasket on the rear sump drain. My 348 Spider did not, though.

I know of no "gasket" for the oil filter other than what is integral to it.

You do want to use a new copper crush ring/gasket on the forward oil drain on the engine block. Take care to not strip those threads, too!

You can't really prime the motor via the new oil filter because it mounts upside down, but I did pour a few drops directly into the engine through the empty filter mount location just prior to screwing on the oil filter and starting the engine.

    Don't overfill!

I added 10 to 10.5 quarts, ran the motor, then checked the oil level hot. Then I added another quart to bring the fill level to the MAX line.

The hardest part is if you want to drain the last half-quart of old oil from the oil cooler on the right side. Otherwise it's just a matter of waiting for the oil to drain from the two oil plug holes.
