When I remove the oil filter from my Mondial Qv, how much oil can I expect to come out?
    The filter that's coming off is I Guess a UFI(white w/blue letters). I purchased a K&N at
the same time I bought their air filter. the

Enough to make a mess if you arn't carefull. Pack all around the bottom of the filter as best you can with paper towels etc - and then add some more (!)

Have a ziploc bag handy to put the old filter in and spin it off as fast as you can. Have some extra towls/rags handy to soak up any spills.

If you do it right you can pretty much catch everything and not make a mess.

Never heard of K&N oil filters for 3x8s/Mondials etc. We use UFI in the UK (occasionally FRAM) & I think people in the STates seem to favour Baldwin (which we don't get here). Those are the only 3 I've seen used.

I use Baldwin, and place paper towels around the bottom also, and really have VERY little oil drain from the filter, but I don't drain it hot!
I warm it up, (not hot, just warm to get oil "moving") (328 gts USA version), then get it on jack stands, drain from sump...maybe about an hour, replace plug. I usually let it sit and cool down, then about 4 hrs later remove & replace oil filter. open sump plug again and "drain"... I do the second "drain" for about 1/2 hr, then replace sump plug & NEW washer.

+1 on the oil filter - did not have any oil drip out of the filter. I replaced a UFI with a Baldwin and did the oil change with the engine warm (not hot.)

I used a 12 quart capacity oil drain pan/bucket and I pretty much filled the container. I think I filled my Mondial QV with 9 quarts of oil and that was about right. (Search the forums - people report 9.5 - 11 quarts, but I think anything over 9 - 10 quarts is over-filling your engine.)

I let my 308 sit overnight just to make sure all the oil are on the bottom of the oil pan (wet sump)
then when I removed the filter there were only a little bit came out. I had a 12 qts container for use oil.
After draining is done, almost 10 qts came out so I know I've drained almost all of them.

    Mike,
Seriously, ditch the K&N and use either a Baldwin or UFI. They have the proper, Ferrari recommended internal standpipe.

Do we know that K&N's don't?
I use a Donaldson filter that's got extra capacity and good filtration media. It's got a standpipe. Of course, with the longer body it needs a longer standpipe. I don't know how the measurements compare. Not that worried. On a cold start the engine takes long enough to catch that the oil pressure is up before I get off the starter!

A fellow F-Chatter suggested to me that you puncture the top of the filter to vent it so all the oil will drain down before spinning it off. I just received my shipment of Baldwin fileters so I am a week away from trying this technique so I can not speak for myself. It makes a lot of sense though to minimize the oil in the filter itself.

In my experience with the Baldwin there has been absolutely no oil spillage when spinning it off about 5 minutes after draining the sump with the engine warm. I have not ever punctured the top. I still put paper towels around the filter during removal, but so far, that has proven unnecessary. If you invert the filter after removing it and then turn it around again, a small amount of oil will spill out. I assume this is because of the internal standpipe.

When I change my oil I do the following.
1.Jack the car up and attempt to loosen the sump bolt.If it moves then I re-tighten it gently then lower the car
2.I then take the car for a spirited drive for at least 1/2hour
3.Jack the car up and drain the oil. While this is draining I then puncture the top of the filter. When the oil flow has slowed down I then lower the car and let it drain overnight. In the mean time I go to the autoparts store and buy a couple of copper washers for the sump plug(I always buy a couple but everytime I change the oil I can never find the spare ones!)
4.The next day I remove the filter which has completely drain and replace the filter with new.I then jack the car up and refit the sump plug
5.I refill with approx. 8 litres of oil then I start it up,have the car warm then shut down and take an oil reading. If it needs more then I add
I like to drain overnight to get as much out as possible even though a few hours would be sufficient

This is what I do...along with letting the car drain oil for several hours. Works well with very little mess.
