I have a feeling that the oil level shall be checked immediate after the engine has been shut down to get the correct reading on the dip stick.

    Is that true?

from everything I've heard or read, 10-15 minutes after engine shutdown. Not sure if it matters on model.

On my 84 308 the owner's manual says to wait 15 min after it has been FULLY WARMED to check. It does make a difference. If you don't follow the instructions the reading is all over the place.

The manual suggests waiting at least 15 minutes to get an accurate reading. If you add oil to the high mark immediately after shutdown, there will be too much oil in it.

I don't get it... do people not have, or just choose to not read, their owner's manual which would be a standard reference making this kind of question unnecessary?

Exactly! Dry sump is completely different than wet sump; and then there's variation from model to model. Do what Ferrari (et. al.) tell you to get an accurate measurement.
